Farzana was adopted by neighbours when she was four years old
Hyderabad: In a touching real life story, Hindus Madhava and Lakshmi Reddy married their daughter Farzana in an Islamic ceremony.
Farzana, who lost both her parents as a child, was adopted by her neighbours Madhav and Lakshmi, and was raised in Islamic traditions much to the curiosity locals in the neighbourhood.
Residents in a remote village in Nalgonda district came together after Farzana’s wedding ceremony became a huge congregation of Hindus as well as Muslims.
Madhava arranged the marriage for Farzana after finding her a groom, Abdul Rasheed, with the help of Ghyasuddin Babu Khan, the prominent philanthropist, who heads Hyderabad Zakat and Charitable Trust.

Babu Khan and his wife were among several top Muslims from Hyderabad who attended the wedding at Goraypalli near Yadgirgutta.
“We always encouraged Farzana to be a religious Muslim. We made arrangements to teach her Namaz and recitation of Quran and she even observed fasting in Ramadan”, recalled Madhava.
After completing her school and college education locally, Farzana studied for a Bachelor of Science in nursing in Hyderabad with the help of Babu Khan’s organisation. But her wish of becoming a doctor could not be fulfilled due to financial concerns.
