Assalamu'alaikum,

My 5-year-old son took a peace of paper and started to draw something last Saturday. I saw him drawing up Palestinian flag then he came and asked me how to spell "Allah please help Palestine"...so I guided him.

He then said, to which I was stunt, "I want to handover this to Allah. Tell me how?".

I paused for few second thinking what to answer him, then I said Allah is All Knower and All Seeing, H knows and see what you are doing and listen to your du'a (I said this is a du'a). But he insisted that he wanted to handover the flag to Allah...I'm clueless how to explain to him. He then pasted the flag at side of the front door...I'm not sure how he got so much of love to Palestine. He also asked who is this people killing my friends in Palestine? I told him an iblees called zionist. Then he asked me to teach him how to make du'a for Palestine.

I think my son still not satisfied with my answer, pls let me know how should I explain to him....

well I think you should Just let it go, and tell him what you think is best. Your son is only 5 years old so soon inshallah he'll grow out of it and he'll realize that the only way to ask Allah swt to help the Palestinians is by making dua. Like here in the states little children think Santa is real but as they grow older they realize Santa was really nothing.:)

A piece of advice If your son asks who are the Zionist or whos killing Palestinians again, Just dont say Jews are killing them, you'll give him the wrong idea. A boy at his age should be hating on eating Vegetables or not getting the toy that he wants but not hating on a certain group of people . The Muslim World has enough wrong hatred towards Jews.

Thanks for your respond. Your point noted..I shall avoid generalize the jews...that's why I told him about zionist killing his friends in Palestine.

He now learning to know who is Allah, he make drawings of plants, mountain, rain, flowers (I told him no images) and he said all these are created by Allah....mashAllah. He asked me whether he needs to go out from home to show to Allah his drawings? He asked "how Allah going to see from the sky when we are inside?" I told him no need because Allah can see where ever you are....I find it very tough to explain to kids...any more tips please?

Sobhanallah!..and mashallah!..your son is acting upon his fitra..that's why he asks so many "deep" questions..you shouldn't really have a problem explaining anything to him..just remember that Allah (swt) has already instilled within him a fitra which acknowledges His Lordship...you have a lot of the work done *already*..so you just have to use practical ways to answer his questions..and you shouldn't ignore any question your child asks..you might think he's only 5..but sobhanallah he can have a matured mind and a heart aware of what is around it..

If he ever asks you how can Allah see me?..tell him..He can because He is The King of all that's in the world..and because you..your mother..and I are part of His Kingdom..He watches over us all the time from His throne in heaven and can see us all the time no matter where we are because we need Him and we want Him to take care of us and protect us all...with the concept of The King and the kingdom you will let him sense the supremacy of Allah and how that makes Him able to watch over you all at all times...and why He (swt) does so as well (in a simplified way of course)

As for wanting to hand the flag to Allah (which is so cute by the way..it really made me smile big..sobhanallah!)..and wanting to pray for Palestine..then I recommend that you have him watch you pray..and you should show him the moves of prayer..you don't have to teach him the words just yet because he's still so young (may Allah bless him)..but teach him the moves..and tell him that you're teaching him the moves because when someone wants to pray for his friends or tell Allah about something..they need to do these moves..if he asks why..then relate it back to The King concept..tell him..a king must be respected a lot and since Allah is The King of kings and all the world..then we have to greet Him and speak to Him in a special way..the reason why I recommend you teach him the prayer moves is because it will prepare him for his duty of prayer in the future inshallah :)..that's if you haven't done so already..

I hope I helped you akhi..I know my reply is lengthy..so for all the time you will spend reading it..I pray that you at least benefit from a word or two from it inshallah

May Allah make your son amongst the successful and devout of the dunya and the akhirah..and may you and his mother be blessed and rewarded with Al-Firdaws for all the care and love you give to him..Ameen!
