HOW TO ACHIEVE KHOUSHOU' IN PRAYER

Before you start your salah

Come early - whether it’s at home or in the masjid. Sit down, make dikhr.
Repeat after the muezzin.
Prepare for your salah ahead of time, think about what you’re going to be reciting, prepare yourself physically and spiritually
Make a full wudu.
Choose a place to pray where there will be no distractions.
Dress nicely for salah, especially for Fajr - don’t come in your pyjamas! Doesn’t matter what you wear specifically, just something nice for salah.
Pray 2 raka nafl.
Read some Qur’an, especially those verses you will be reading in the coming Salah
Make dua.
Don’t talk too much before the salah, even if you’re tempted to socialise.
Don’t look around, be focussed!
Straighten the lines before you start the salah.
Contemplate the Greatness of the Lord who you are standing before.
Remember some of the stories of the sahabah of how they would stand for their salah
Remember the virtue of focussing on salah just before you start
Prophet (saw) told us that there is no salah if you need to go to the toilet.
Plan for salah and make sure you are not hungry when you come to pray.
Don’t start your salah if you’re sleepy, but if it happens to you regularly - plan for this.
Race for the first line.
Pray as close as possible to the Imam.
Remember death, imagine this is your final salah.

In Salah
Contemplate over the words “Allahu Akbar”
Consider the status of ihsaan in your salah. Worship Allah (swt) as if you’re seeing Him, and if you don’t have that level, know that He is watching you.
Look down.
Observe the right etiquette of salah, learn how to pray properly by studying the salah
Slow down the speed of your recitation (Compare how quickly you pray by yourself to when you’re the Imam).
Make dua before you start reciting Sura Fatiha.
Contemplate over the verses which you’re reciting.
Beautify the Qur’an with your voice.
Remembering that Allah (swt) decided this salah between Him and yourself
Focus on your prostration position
Learn the different words of dikhr to read in the sujud and ruku
Never look up when you come up from ruku. The Prophet (saw) forbade us from doing that.
Make dua and ask Allah (swt) for your needs in sujud.

After Salah

Don’t move straight away from your position. The Prophet (saws) tells us that the angels ask forgiveness for us until we move away from the salah.
Do tasbeeh, say subhanAllah, Alhumdulilah and Allahu Akbar 33 times each.
Do dua for anything that you haven’t done dua for
Evaluate your salah. How much of the salah did you focus on?
Pray nafl to make up for the deficiencies in your salah.

wa iyyaki sister. lol This pyjamas thing is bec scholars would always say that if we were to meet a VIP, we wouldn't be putting on our night, but rather our best clothes. What if we were to meet the Lord of All Creation and address Him saying, "Thee we worship and Thine support we beseech." At least we should have special, clean, good looking clothes for that purpose.
