Hello everyone! I am very seriously considering converting to Islam, but Im not quite sure how to go about it.
There are a lot of things that come into play when becoming a Muslim like food, prayer, Friday services, hijab, etc.
Ive been reading a lot of things on the internet and trying my best to inform myself, but I just wish I could get some face to face type help...so how would I approach a mosque? Am I allowed inside? Should I go accompanied? Do they speak English?! ahhh

I'm so happy to hear you want to become Muslim :) thats wonderful news!!
OK so my advice would be to spend less time learning online and more time reading Quran, that way you know what you are reading is 100% accurate. Sometimes information online isn't accurate or is run by people who aren't Muslim and want to confuse you. This site is good though :). Of course you can go to the mosque and they should welcome you with open arms. If you want you can give the mosque a call and ask questions before you go, that can help calm nerves. At the mosques where I live they speak english, friday prayers are done in english and they advertise if they are doing services in any other language. Sister what area do you live in? maybe there is another sister here close to you who could go with you if you don't know anyother Muslims in your area. I agree it's better to learn to pray with someone physically there with you, but the mosque can help you out with this inshAllah.
If you have more questions, feel free to ask anything
take care!!

Yes, I'm pretty sure they'll be able to talk english :p
Just call up the mosque (look up their number in the yellow pages?) and tell them you are just interested in learning more about Islam, and you a female, and they will inshAllah get in touch with a sister who you can talk to :)

Check out some of the new muslim vids on this site as well - they will give you a good insight into what a lot of new muslims feel and think. Plus, there are heaps of reverts on this site!! Maybe you'll come across some of their posts as well - everyone starts of nervous :p

Salam alaikum.

Thank you for the quick responses!

Well I tried calling them already but they never answer the phone...I left a message at one but I dunno. Seems kind of sketchy. I live next to florida state university and will be getting a new roommate in a few days...turns out she is from Sri Lanka and possibly from the muslim part?! Im not sure but that would be super cool if she was muslim...then i could go the mosque with her! =D

Islamic Finder is great. I use that site for many different things (prayer times, finding restaurants, grocery stores, etc.). It is a little out of date at times but helpful none the less. Sister, my suggestion is use that website and email the masjid. When I was trying to track someone down to do my shahadah it took about a month before I could get ahold of someone and that is because I had a friend who had a friend who had a friend... LOL. I emailed the other places though the same day that I called this "connection" I got and they all emailed me within a week.

Most places welcome converts with open arms and will take the time out to find the answers to your questions if you ask them. Also there might be some help at your local University since there is usually some kind of Muslim organization and most Universities.

Insha'Allah this helps! Masha'Allah on your decision to convert! Allahu Akbar!!!!!!!!!! :hearts:
