:salam2: dear brothers and sisters, i have started a program in my school to diminish racism, we talk about all sorts of things related to making peace and such.....well this wednesday i have the meeting again to make a discussion with others, but i also do a speech thing. please give me ideas on what to do this wednesday inshaAllah. also i'd appreciate if you could give an idea to get people involved because people don't see this program to be of any significance. despite the negativity i want to continue but i need your ideas and your help, and of course Allah's help firstly. appreciate your help. asalamu alaykum.:)

Do a presentation about Islam and how it abolished barriers of race and made peopel of different nations brothers in faith with a common goal. One God, one people, one father (Adam - may peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) and one way to make one better than the other (piety - taqwa).

How about this one ?

First of all, anything which you want to do for the sake of Allah, ask Allah Subhanahu wa Taala to bless you in it. You can make Salatul Istikhara to seek guidance from Allah Subhanahu wa taala. Make duas as much as you can. If possible try to do Qiyam al Layl.

Secondly, as you are talking about how to diminish racism, bring together some sisters who are of different race, colour and ethnicity. Make a group. Plan things ahead. What are you going to speak? Organise yourselves. The best would be to talk about the sahabas who were of different race, colour and even ethnicity but in Islam everybody is equal in front of Allah Subhanahu wa Taala. A person can only be superior through piety and good deeds.

Do not argue with the non Muslims if they try to make a mockery out of you. Keep yourself strong. Be prepared to face the worst. Answer their queries humbly and in a respectful manner. If you cannot answer anything at that moment, tell them to give you some time so that you can clear their misconceptions.

Remember that according to them, you are going to talk only about racism but they do not know that you would be giving the talk through an Islamic perspective.

Anyways got some topics previously discussed in TTI

Racism: Is there a Solution?

'Shocking' racism in jobs market

Clinton Sipes, from violence and racism to Islam

Anything more just let us know Insha Allah Taala.

I agree with both posts. In school I was in Amnesty International where we basically 'fought for human rights'. Funny the members where only muslims! And as hussain said, I always tried to make my speeches from an Islamic perspective so in that way, I was hitting two birds with one stone.

assalamo alaikum..

if you are in a multi-cultural program (members are of different backgrounds)..then what you can do is..arrange with your school..or with a teacher to provide you with a tv...every other meeting (or however often you decide) to show a movie that speaks of a certain culture...or educates others about it..and you can give that night a name like..*African Movie Night*...or *Islamic Movie Night*..or *Spanish Movie Night*..etc.

for the Islamic Movie Night..everyone can watch *Islam: Empire of Faith*..or *The Message* (if it's allowed in your school..in college it's easier than high school or middle school..when doing things like that)..so you can watch things of that nature

also on the same night..you can print out a sheet of paper with numbers...1 through 10..where the student or the member (or even non-members who heard about it and thought it was cool to come watch)..watches the movie..and writes questions he/she has during or after the movie...about the culture or the religion...and they can be anonymous..so the student feels comfortable writing *any* question he/she has..and you can gather these questions..pick the ones of most relevance (or all of them if you have that kind of time)..and get members to research one or a few of their own choice..and bring the answers to the next meeting..

if you have multi-cultural organizations...associations..institutions..masjids..etc. in your town..
once a month (or again as often as you wish)..all of you members can get together..and go on a tour...or a day..where you can go learn about that establishment..ask questions..be around people from that culture..have a laid-back atmosphere..arrange a small pot-luck lunch with that establishment (if they allow it)..so everyone can mingle and be comfortable with each other..basically...see the human side of each other..not the stereotypes..and the fears..and the prejudice opinions..

if there are classes in your school that will be discussing a certain topic..which a certain student relates to or the issue directly effects...arrange with the knowledgeable students and the teacher a panel..where you can take these students to that class and they can share with that class their experience(s)..and answer any questions students may have..

I can probably think of a few more..but I need to sit down and think about it for a bit..inshallah I will get back to you with more ideas if I get any..

the key to any thing of this sort..is INVOLVEMENT..get the members involved amongst themselves and amongst others..once you do that..you will get them attached to whatever you are advocating because then..it will be something *personal* to them!..and it's simply more *fun* for them too..they won't just sit there *and hear* things..or *watch things*..they will *do..do..do*..and THAT is HUGE too!

sorry for the long reply...but I truly applaud you for your effort and for doing something like this!..

May Allah Grant You Huge Ajer For It!
