Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh

Your Excellency,

Re: Harassment & Intimidation of Muslim women with Hijab

I am writing to express my grave concerns at the continued harassment and intimidation of Muslim women choosing to wear the Islamic “Hijab” in Tunisia; as highlighted by Amnesty International in their public statement dated 13th of November 2006.

http://web.amnesty.org/library/Index/ENGMDE300172006?open&of=ENG-TUN

I have been aware of the prevailing circumstances for sometime, however I was hoping that your Excellency’s Government would take action to pacify the situation.

Sir, I must profess that as a defender of human rights (globally), a member of Amnesty International and above all as a Muslim; I have been genuinely appalled at the behaviour of your government and perplexed as I can’t see any rhyme or reason for such activities, particularly when such actions are contrary to the spirit and the law of Qur’aan and Sunnah; which I believe all Tunisians accept as divine and binding.

Sir, I urge you to look into ensuring the immediate and unconditional cessation of all such activities under Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Above and beyond the International laws and treaties; I remind you to be fearful and mindful of Allah (SWT); the creator.
As a member of the Human Rights Council, Tunisia has an opportunity to show its commitment to human rights by respecting its international human rights obligations and ensuring the immediate cessation of such activities.

Thank you

Yours truly,

Salaam Brother,

I will read the articles and you know I will write and nag and nag and become a total pest. I am not computer savy so help: can we start a petition e-mail?

Asalaamalikum,

Yeah I'm hungry about this topic also. I wanted to see if any sisters could share their personal harassment experiences, if any, for wearing the hijab/niqab in ANY country.

I walked into my superivisors office, first thing out of her mouth was
" Please don't hurt me"....I am still hobbling from an ankle injury and am in badages. I felt like saying these are not my breasts under here but gernades. I didn't. I need the job.

I once heard that Tunisia also banned dolls that wear hijab from the markets. I don't know how accurate this is. But if true, it's really appalling and psychotic.

Assalamu alaykum,

I have faced some crazy experience. I live in U.S and I come to U.S less than a year before 9/11 and there was this store I like and after 9/11 I walk in and the people were scare, the look on their face, and I have face some harassment in school but after the student really got to know me, they have except me. the was this teacher that really treat me badly, I wear hijab, so one day in his class and I have a girl once pull my hijab and the teacher seen and say nothing. But the girl says sorry when she got to know to know me. living in non Muslim country you face harassment once in while, now I am use to it but it was hard come from a country where all the people was Muslim and people respect, love and admire Islam to country where Muslim face harassments because they are Muslim. I was what 12 or 13 of age and these experiences really made me. you get to be patience

Brother,

When I start to have physical manifestations..it is time to contmeplate. You are too sincere and intelliegent. Islam needs your passions.
We are admist the devils. Duplicity is the word of the day.
The moneymongers are servants of the devil. What a price they will pay.

What is so sad are the ones who are the servants of the servants of the devils. They who enforce the evil "laws ". It is to these people that men like you and Brother GP and several others need to appeal. We need to wake them up.

I know with all my heart Allah will provide a venue for you. I will pray and seek more knowledge.

your devoted aapa ( i think i got the spelling right )

So true, that most Islamic Nations can't do much about this...
The governments are to tied up with their secular agenda and they can't help but surrender the national assets to the much-hyped hegemony in the west...
South East Asia is like the number one customer for the western products, but we still succumb to inferiority complex when facing western agenda.
Great that some muslims have taken the initiative to talk about this, and here goes nothing...
Islam rules the economy, produces own business items, machines, and the goods... provided, the Islamic Leaders know what to do...

Cairo campus veil ban struck down!

Asslamo Allaikum,

American university is the bastion of liberalism, enlightenment and modernism, in Egypt; therefore this ruling is significant and should be viewed as a positive indicator of the direction of Islam & Muslims in Egypt; Alhum-do-lillah.

I have been hearing some very good news from Egypt lately; despite all the negativity all is not lost.
