Is this true in Islam?

Assalamualakum everyone!

I have a question a girl asked me if plucking the eyebrows is a sin. I first tol her that Im pretty sure it's something made up. But then I asked my sister in law and she said that she heard the same thing so I'm not sure anymore. Can someone tell me if it's a sin to pluck your eyebrows and if it is then why

jazakallah khair

Praise be to Allaah.
Firstly:

It is not permissible to remove any hair from the eyebrows, whether it is to make them thinner or to reshape them, or for what is called cleaning, which means removing excess or scattered hairs, because that comes under the heading of plucking which is haraam, and concerning which it is narrated that the one who does it is cursed.

Al-Bukhaari (4886) and Muslim (2125) narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: May Allaah curse the one who does tattoos and the one who has a tattoo done, the one who plucks eyebrows and the one who has her eyebrows plucked, and those who file teeth for the purpose of beautification, changing the creation of Allaah. News of that reached a woman of Banu Asad who was called Umm Ya’qoob, who used to read the Qur’aan. She came to him and said: What is this that I have heard about you cursing the one who does tattoos and the one who has a tattoo done, the one who has her eyebrows plucked, and those who file teeth for the purpose of beautification, changing the creation of Allaah? ‘Abd-Allaah said: Why should I not curse those whom the Messenger of Allaah (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) cursed, when it is in the Book of Allaah? The woman said: I have read the Mus-haf from cover to cover and I did not find it. He said: If you had read it you would have found it. Allaah says: “And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) gives you, take it; and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it)” [al-Hashr 59:7]. The woman said: I think that I would see something of that on your wife now. He said: Go and look. So she entered upon the wife of ‘Abd-Allaah and did not see anything. She came to him and said: I did not see anything. He said: If that were the case, we would not live with her

Praise be to Allaah.

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: “If removing hair from the eyebrows is done by plucking, this is namas (plucking the eyebrows) and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed the naamisah (the woman who plucks eyebrows) and the mutanammisah (the woman who has her eyebrows plucked). This is a major sin, and women are singled out in this ruling because they are the ones who usually do this, for the purpose of beautification, but if a man were to do it he would also be cursed, just as a woman is cursed for doing this, Allaah forbid.

If hair is removed from the eyebrows by a method other than plucking, such as by cutting or shaving, some of the scholars regard this as being the same as plucking, because it is changing the creation of Allaah, so there is no difference between plucking, cutting or shaving. This is undoubtedly more on the safe side, so a person must avoid that, whether man or woman.”

(Quoted from Fataawa ‘Ulama’ al-Balad al-Haraam, p. 577)

The following question was mentioned in Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah (5/196):

A young woman has very thick eyebrows that make her look bad. This girl was forced to shave part of the area between the eyebrows and to reduce the rest so that she will look acceptable to her husband.

The Committee replied:

“It is not permissible to shave the eyebrows or reduce then, because that is the namas (plucking) for which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed the one who does it and the one who asks for it to be done. What you must do is repent and pray for forgiveness for what you have done in the past, and beware of that in the future.

Another question (5/195) was put to the Committee:

Namas means removing some of the hair of the eyebrows, and is not permitted, because the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed the woman who plucks her eyebrows and the one who has that done, but it is permissible for a woman to remove a beard or moustache, if one grows, or hair from her legs or arms.”

The hadeeth which says that the woman who plucks the eyebrows or who has that done is cursed was narrated by al-Bukhaari (4886) and Muslim (2125), from the hadeeth of ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him).

The point is that it is haraam to remove any hair from the eyebrows, whether all the hair is removed by shaving, or some of it is removed by cutting. Anything apart from that is permissible, such as removing hair from the arms and legs, and the area between the eyebrows. The following appeared in Fataawa al-Lajnah (5/197):

Question: What is the ruling on plucking the hair between the eyebrows?

Answer: It is permissible to pluck it, because it is not part of the eyebrows.

And Allaah knows best.

Waiting for that day
im wondering the exact same thing! some people said it's fine, some said no. the thing is, there has to be a reason as to why you would do it.

some people say its the intention that counts [for plucking eyebrows, since its not 100% sure if it is haram]. If you're eyebrows are really thick and bushy and make you look like a man lol or make you look un neat/clean then i heard you can clean them a bit. Also, if your husband wants you to then its fine. If it affects your health, like it comes to your eyes lol then of course you can remove it.[remember, this is what i have heard. i am not 100% sure it is correct.] but i know that removing ALL your eyebrows and penning them in is definitely WRONG.

but i personally pluck my eyebrows, because they are a mess! they are still thick but i clean them. i did not change the shape of them.

actually, it is good that you brought this topic up as many females do not know this or are oblivious of it. it is clearly haram and Allahs curse is upon these people, its not worth entailing Allah's wrath. sadly, there are many, many women who have pencil-thin eyebrows and for me, I see Allah's la'anah on them. it is also unfortunate to see that many Muslim beauticians here specialise in this kind of practice. astaghfirullah

salam from pakistan!
sister shamim56 and all, assalamo alaikum, my wife used to pluck eybrows after marriage. when she started going to learn quran and hadeeth then she came to know it was haram.
so she immediately stopped that practice.
LOGIC: 1. if we see it logically then it will come into our mind that we are going to change the things created by Allah swt.
2. We consider that Allah swt made this imperfect and now we are going to change it by our own will. astaghfirullah
so we should be more clear now.
wasalam.

Assalamualikum.
As some have given the evidence that it is haram but why is it haram?

Any kind of modification on Allah's creation is haram. When women pluck their eyebrow, their face look different then what Allah has created them.So this is not permissible.

But it is ok for women to remove any hair on the face such as mostache or beard if they do have(yes some do have due to hormone) because women are not suppose to have this hair which resembles men and they can remove it.

Women are not suppose to pluck their eyebrow and also cannot be bald.other than that is permissible(as far as am concern through my studies)

Allah knows the best.

:salam2:

when a skeick (I forget his name) was asked about that issue he said it is not premissible but if a women has very thick eyebrows she is allowed to pluck them.

I mean what about women with very thick and close knit eyebroes....
It is also premitted for women to remove the hairs from their body. Because a womean have to look like a woman..... same with very thick eyebroes... isn´t it? I´ve read the replies but I´m still not satisfied. :(
