I have heard a story about the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his wife Aisha racing each by means of running, so I cant see a problem with the running as long as your awrah is covered. Although, if you're husband isn't happy with you doing it then I would advise against it.

Maybe you could do another activity such as a sponsored walk or organise a fun day or something?

Ofcourse there's nothing funny about Hijaab/Niqaab itself but running with those? Besides Allaah swt told women to lower our gaze. Allaah swt knows best.

Why dont you organize event like sprint or something for charity and only women be allowed to enter the place and no mens be there. or maybe indoor sprint event. because there is nothing wrong in taking part in these events unless some peeping toms are around.

"Tell the believing men to lower their gaze, … And tell the believing women to lower their gaze, …" [24: 30-31]

So don't give the opportunity to this people to look at you.

I's better for you to stay in your house. Like i said kitched is not bad at all.

"And stay in your houses, and do not display yourselves like that of the times of ignorance, …" [33: 33]

Please sister i know what marathon is. So don't mix with other men. It's purer for you to stay at home or walk with your husband in a park. There are differend options to stay fit/ healthy. please think deeply.

Our prophet didnt want woman and men to mix. Think also about the reason our prophet ordered the men to leave the mosque after the woman have left. It's about mixing dear sister.

1) You mentioned something about woman in Niqaab running or joging. Are they really run the marathon? .

2) Do they mix with other men?

3) are men watching them running

As for your questions, the women I've seen running in full abayya & niqab...

No, they are not running the marathon, they are just jogging (for their own fitness and/or enjoyment, presumably). I've never seen a Muslim woman run the London marathon, but of course, that doesn't necessarily mean that they don't do it.

Not that I've seen. Although they do run on public streets, so bumping into a man, sidestepping another male jogger/passerby isn't exactly avoidable. I once watched a sister run the entire length of Abu Dhabi corniche, whilst I was walking it. Along both of our route, there were a number of men to be encountered. This doesn't mean that the sisters involved stopped for a chat, however

Whether or not they are mere passers by, or are actually intently watching the sisters involved, yes, men (and women) can clearly see them exercising.

The fact is I probably will never get to run the marathon, I think the main idea behind it is to have an aim to get fit. I cannot get fit just for the sake of it, I need some other greater aim!!!

The reasoning from the quran and sunnah are clear, however, much of the reasons why i shouldnt run the marathon are things that I, and many other sisters face every day!!!

We get seen by men when we walk down the street.

I have to stand close to men on the bus or train in the commute to work, this seems to be more accepted by people than if it were in the marathon.

I deal with men in my job as I am a teacher. Without this professional communication, I cannot do my job effectively and I feel that the dawah opportunities in this area FAR outweigh everything else.

It all goes back...at the end of the day to fin a healthy balance in life. Should I stay at home all day long doing my house work, not talking o anyone the whole week getting depressed and going mad or should I get out there and do what I need to do and try to make the most of life within the limits?????

As for people laughing at me, let them laugh, but im telling you alot of people would say you go sister. I think people need a reason to see islam in a positive light.

You seemed to have touched an interesting point. No you don't have to stay home all day long and do house work, if you need to, you can work, go to school, exercise (I have seen some sisters even with a hijab and long loose shirt, loose sweat pants) at the gym. You can get fit in so many ways, I mean how fit do you want to get?? I think it's important to stay healthy but I don't think you need to be model stick (unless you want to). Your life is not constrained at all. Allah has clear provisions as to what is your role and my role.

You said that you are seen by guys at work on the bus--sure, I agree but this is a norm, it's part of life, the fact is people have eyes--it's considered "ordinary," but when you are in running in a marathon with kuffar men watching you for the sake of watching you, and all "eyes" on you, which is unordinary--the mere fact that your physical can still be noticed and perhaps you running and sweating maybe catches and turns on guys attention- who knows. I think there are more important things in life than running a marathon. Take for example, you see the kuffar dating, I like women too, but I can't do what they do. It has unconcious results (sinning, diseases,etc). I don't feel like it's the end of world for me, I believe it makes more sense to be married than running around dating people left and right ( I certainly hope you agree).

I like swimming, but I don't do it because of the women around. I have respect for them and myself- but it's not the end of the world. You do the best you can to avoid haram acts and the rest you leave the rest up to Allah. It's all about your intentions. I know I didn't help much, sometimes writing is not more helpful than direct physical talk. May Allah make things easier for you.

Dear sister a woman has many options, we don't have to be narrowminded. It's not only sahara or parachute jump. I will mention some insha Allah. Think about walking/ cycling with your husband, swimmingpools only for women, gym rooms only for women and more and more. You don't have to stick to your kitchen. There are plenty of differend ways to keep yourself healthy.

Also there are many ways to interact with other muslim women. Go and study islam insha Allah you will understand the purpose of " Not mixing etc..." . If you have many knowledge please teach other muslims women their religion.

And it's going about your ability to stay away of......., If you are walking down the streets please keep in mind O you brothers and sister to lower your gaze.

Hy, im not offended, probably i offended many more people inmy time!!!!

The problem is......I annot go to the gym coz no one to look afer my little one.
Canno go walkng or cycling with hubby....he is never here...and whe he is, hardly talks o me....but we wont go there on that one.

As for female only gyms....there used to be one here in birmingham city centre, where me and lots of other sisters used to go. It was fine until you went to the changing room and saw large older muslim women wo would ge naked and go to the shower room.:astag:

It was BLINDING!!! So we stopped going for that reason..and oz we had to queue for the treadmills etc.

Now there are a few womens only gyms and most of them close early, when we are still at work or something.

Womens swimming...oh how i love swimming.

If anyone here has been to small heath pool on a saturday morning or a friday night they will know what I mean. They cram as many people into the pool as possible that it is impossible to swim.again i have the same problem with ayub and also, he mslim women who go to the pool eem to have a probem with covering themselves up. for them it is fine to wear a swimming costume and thats it!!! all it takes is some baggy shorts or something...but again we are blinded!!!!!!

I may consider going to get one of thoe burkini things and go to a womaen only session in a "white" area, inshallah it will be less busy, but then men may see me.
