may the peace of Allah be on you dear sister.
In my opinion, i think there is nothing that can stop you from running (marathon) so long as you avoid anything that is against islam / forbiden.
Such is like, showing off your aurah (beauty) to men who are not your mahram (can whear or cloth according to islam) ... do not mix with men who have not your Mahran etc ... just nothing against islamic law. Remember our religion is complete and hence must be followed according to the rules.

May Allah guide us to the right path.

Assalmoelaikoem warahmatullahi wbarakatuh,

Masha Allah a moslim laddy running the marathon. I don't think it's allowed. Why because i don't think you can run the marathon with islamic dress which covers you completly, like Allah wants.

And also a kitchen is not bad at all. To kook for your children and husband is not bad at all.

Do you want men to watch you running?

Subhanallah

Ask Scholars please and they will inform you.

I think your husband is right.

Take care

Sister why you want to go for marathan. Even if you run marrothan and try to prove your point. notthing is going to change unless they are guided to islam By Allah(SWT). Besides for fitness reason dont eat much junk food and buy some fitness equipment and do it in home. or do some morning walk in the end its upto you.

Personally I think it'd be better if you got some kind of treadmill and installed it in your house.

Have you ever thought of going into Purdah? :p

Sister, I don't THINK that there's anything to prevent you from doing so (although you should double-check, I'm no expert), provided that you are appropriately covered!

If you want to do it, then go for it, there is no need to listen to anybody who tells you various reasons not to, unless their reasons are based in ISLAM.

You're right about getting fit - as the marathon takes a lot of training! If you can fit it in without sacrificing the needs of your deen and your family, then what's stopping you? And what a good opportunity to raise money for charity!

As for people saying that you can't do the marathon in full Islamic attire, I beg to differ...for the following reasons:

1) In Arab (and other Muslim) nations, the sight of a woman running/jogging/power-walking for the sake of her own fitness in full abayya and niqab is not uncommon. I have seen many, many women do this, with complete ease. Insha'allah wear something in a light (but opaque) material, and you should have no problem!

2) As for men 'seeing you run'...where's the harm? Could somebody post some evidence from the Qur'an/Sunnah as to why this should be avoided?

3) Unless you become super-fit (insha'allah!!), actually running the marathon will be a very difficult task indeed! Most 'fun runners' alternate between jogging, walking, and the occasional sprint. This is a 26-mile race, after all!

I'm glad you raised this issue sister, since I'm going to be doing something similar soon (a 10k walk/run), to raise money for breast cancer.

I hope you make the right decision. And if you decide not to, then it should be for true Islamic reasons :)

And other than your opinion it is forbidden. Running in the marathon where not only non-mahrams running but nonMuslims from the culture of shamelessness?

Where is the evidence of Muslims women running along with non muslims?

Our Prophet (SAW) and his companions did not need fitness? Because according to my info. they did not confuct any marathon alone yet in collarboration with nonbelievers.

There are many excercises possible and the woman can run in quite area of the park or at many other places. Why to participate in marathon?

If Islam forbade men from seeing women run how would women run away from them?

Would a potential attacker politely close his eyes and count to 100 whilst the woman scarpered? :D

Respctful reverted sister,

My I put your above sentense in other way:

If you want to do it, then do NOT go for it unless you listen to somebody who tells you if it is allowed in Islam.

How about it?
If I want something, then who the hell am I? My Nafs? The approach of "I want" is just the atheist approach. There is Allah SWT to guide us what should be done and what not.

1, 2, 3 ...Excercise. Run anywhere in the world, jump in to well, but do NOT support the motive of mixing men with women. I wonder people dont know the concepts behind marathon. They are being fooled.

Assalamu alaikum,

If it's an ALL-WOMEN audience then it's fine but I don't think it is. Besides, the thought of you wearing full niqaab/hijaab in a marathon might just provoke them to laugh or make fun of you.

Salaam sister,

What's funny about the niqaab? Let 'em laugh in their ignorance, I say. Because they will pay for it eventually.

OT, I know, but... do you ever feel like having the video of you in your pre niqaabi days removed?

:salam2:

You ask a lot of interesting questions brother, lol :)

I don't wear niqaab (as discussed in another post, I don't even wear a headscarf, although I made massive progress this week, but that's veering way off-topic and is for another post!).

However, if I DID wear niqaab (and I guess the same might be applied to hijab), I certainly wouldn't want anyone (esp. males) to see my old photos and videos, but I wouldn't necessarily want them erased. That's a part of my life that's gone, but it existed nonetheless. I'm answering only to Allah, and Allah already knows how I used to be and what I used to do. I think it'll be a nice reminder of why I chose Islam (alhamdulillah). And to shake my head in wonderment at how unenlightened to the truth I really was :)
