Math game i can tell you how....

first of the algebra approach will not work though you will end up one equation and one expression. let say your total is 60
x=no. of boys
y=no. of girls

first equation will be
10x+y=45 if you start working from top to bottom

you can also get an expression for no. of boys if start working from bottom to top .

[60-y/5-3]/2.....(no. of boys) . the problem is you can't plug this expression in the above equation coz it is the same equation worked in a different way.
we can manipulate the first equation by looking for factors of 45
10x+y=45.... no. of boys multiplied by ten then you add no. of girls
factor out 10 from 45 will be (10 x 4)+5=45... is like no. of boys multiplied 10 then added no. of girls..........this is only true and possible if the original problem the no. of boys x 2 added 3 x by 5 then added no. of girls at last. notice i have remove the factor 3 x 5 by subtracting 15 from the total. also the no. of girls have to be less than 10

even the three digit is possible if the factor 20 but the no. of girls have to be less than 15. you see this is not a math problem coz some set of rules have satisfied first.

well i don't know the alogarithm method i like brother humblewun to explain.

hope makes some sense.

Thanks Brother Abou haytam....

Let me try to explain it. It is easy than it looks, here it is.......

For example:

you have 3 Brothers

3 X 2= 6
6 + 3= 9
9 X 5= 45

45 + 3 sisters= 48

the anwser will be
48
-15
______
33

the frist 3 is the brothers number the seccond 3 is the number of your sisters..

I hope now you know it how to do if you don't understand it, Abou Haytam can explain it better than me.....

i thought you gonna work out mathimatically it is just a mere coincident that the first digit will be boys and the last digit will be girls after you subtracted 15 i knew it was not a math problem as you have stated coz for example if my total is 115 it will not work coz no. of girls have to be less than 10.

here is my three digit follow the following five steps just give me the total and i will tell you how many brothers and sisters
1. how many brothers you have.
like let say 4
2. multiply it by 2 like 2 x 4= 8
3.add 5 like 8+5=13
4. multiply by 10 like 13 x 10 = 130
5. add the no. of sisters like let say you have 3 sisters 130+3= 133
just tell me the total and i will tell you the no. of brothers and sisters
like i have said the no. of sisters have to be less than 10.
1.

Assalmoelaikoem warahmatullahi wbarakatuh,

( brothers) *2 +3 *5 (+sisters) ---> Total Number

This is my solution insha Allah, it's very easy:

Total number ---> /5 -3 /2 ---> Answer

one part of the answer are the brothers and the other part are the sisters. I will give you an example.

I have 5 brothers and 3 sisters, Ok.

5 *2=10
10 +3=13
13 *5 =65
65+3=68

My solution

68/5=13.6
13.6-3=10.6
10.6/2= 5.3 ( answer, viola)

the first part before the dot are the brothers and behind are the sisters, so 5 brothers and 3 sisters

Do you understand Yes or not

My number is 27...

My solution:

27/5=5.4
5.4-3=2.4
2.4/2=1.2

1 brother and 2 sisters

reaction of libin :
I wish I could say: haha you're Wrong!!!!!

okay,okay..you're right i do have 1 brother and 2 sisters

how did u figure that out??...and yes it's true that i have 1 brother and 1 sister

salam o alikom brother;

your solution is rejected mathematically cuz it dose not work in some case brother :p.

if i have 10 sisters and 2 brother the final number will be 45...but if we use your solution it will give 3 brothers and 0 sisters.

the same if i have 20 sisters and 1 brother.

the same if i have 30 sisters and 0 brother...

all those case gives the same final nuber which is 45 and your answer using your solution will be 3 brothers and 0 sisters.

what is wrong with your solution then ;) ?

salam o alikom

it s seems to be coincident but there is some ''truth'' in his equations, he just need to make clear the mathematic problem.

a = no. brothers
b = no. sisters

acording to the steps that we have to flow to give the final number y. we will have this equation.

(2a+3)5+b=y (1)
with those condition y>15 , a>=0, 0=<b<10 (THIS IS THE KEY the number of sisters should be less than 10).

the equation (1) give us a = (y-15)/10 -b/10 ; as we know we are talking about numbers of sisters and brothers ...so a should be a '' natural number'' i don t know if it s the good name in english ( cuz i study in french)...i mean we can t have a= 2.5 cuz it mean 2 brother and half !!!!! in this case a = E (2.5) = 2 [ the function E mean by those exemple E(3.125)=3 , E(5.145)=5 ]

let s go to the equation (1)

0=< a =(y-15)/10 -b/10 < (y-15)/10 ( cuz y>=0 )

so E(0)=< a =(y-15)/10 -b/10 <= E[(y-15)/10]

so a <=E[(y-15)/10] AND (2a+3)5+b=y

if someone have the final number y = 45 then E[(45-15)/10] = 3 so a <= 3 which mean , a= 0 or a=1 or a=2 or a=3 we inject ''a'' in the equation (2a+3)5+b= 45

a= 0 -------------> b= 45-15 = 30
a= 1--------------> b= 45-25 = 20
a= 2--------------> b= 45-35 = 10
a= 3--------------> b= 45-45 = 0

using the condition 0=<b<10 the solution is a= 3 and b = 0 ( without this condition '' 0=<b<10 '' the 4 possibility are correct. )

Assalmoelaikoem warahmatullahi wbarakatuh,

yes brother abou haytham you are right. I knew before you rejected my solution the solution has it's own limits.

How many people in the world have 10 sisters or more?

I think it's one billion and 200 million people have more than 10 sisters ( it's the islamic Ummah). Maybe there are a few people who have more than 10 sisters.

still mine is 70 can you tell me how many broyhers & sisters i have?
i read somewhere it is 6 brothers and 4 sisters but that is wrong for my family, so correct me.

:salam2: math is one of the greatest blessings of Allah,

let me explain that in an easy way Inchallah, you take the total and subtract 15 from it, then the number you get in the tens place is the number of brothers and the number you get in the ones place is the sisters number.

this formula is no longer gonna be valid if you have more than 9 sisters.

is that make any sense?

Maybe I am not that bad in math.:ma:
I will show you I tried like this following brother Imad's formula:

( 1 Brother) *2 +3 *5 (+5 Sisters)--> Total Number =30 -15=15
