Subhanallah indigenous people in Chiapas ( southern Mexico) people are converting to Islam. This region of Mexico (Chiapas) has become famous for its non-muslim rebelion group EZLN that struggles for rights. The rebelion group, by the way, has nothing to do with Islam.
Compared to other countries in Latin America with sizable Muslims communities, Mexico's Muslim population is tiny.
In southern Mexico, the indigenous Mayan population is a minority.
But another minority is being created within that group, as more and more Mayans convert from Catholicism.
In Chiapas, Frank Contreras takes a look at how Islam is gaining a foothold in the region.
