My first trip to a Masjid....

As some of you may or may not know, I hadnever been to as Masjid eventhough I accepted Islam fully in 2009. The reason for this is because I didnt really know any Muslims in my state and I was nervous to go to the wrong masjid and it give deviant teachings.

Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I contacted a Masjid only 1 hour away (I live in the middle of nowhere) And they gave my contact information to a sister who arranged a meeting with me on a Sunday (Nov. 13) :)

At first I was nervous because eventhough it was a Sunday the Masjid was FULL ( :subhanallah: ) But this made me nervous since people were kind of staring at me. I found this kind sister outside waiting for me with all smiles :)

We had a tour of the Masjid and it was VERY nice masha allah. A lot of gender separation to my relief. We have a separate door and stairs leading to the upper women's cat walk, wudu area and prayer area =)

I took my formal shahaddah over the intercom before Zuhr prayer and the women were crying. It was very moving and I was amazed at the response since they all were strangers after all!

Hugs, kisses on the cheek, gifts of food, candy and dua alhamdulilah.
This newfound community has strengthened my deen so much alhamdulilah. Since that time, I have been to another large Masjid and its a wonderful journey I wish for everyone to have. I have also witnessed another shahaddah AND a nikkah (On this past Friday) :allahuakbar:

I know in America for reverts it can be hard to find a Masjid, and it can be scary. But PLEASE, insha allah, go to a Masjid. Be part of the community. Its an amazing experience and I can't express how I wish that I had not waited this long.

Please share stories about your first trip to the Masjid :)
Or for you all who were born into Muslim families, have you witnessed and met a new shahaddah insha allah?

Its okay sister, keep contacting. Get phone numbers, email addresses and call. Depending on the Masjid, you COULD just show up on a Jumuah. Thats what the other shahaddah did, lol.

Oh why didn't you tell me that the day you did it=(. I would have a very nice B.day consolation lol. I just realised 13th has passed and that I lost a year already. Mashaa'Allaah I'm so happy for you and glad you picked up that day (eventhough it isn't really significant). GOod to know good things happen every day.

May Allaah fill you life here and in akhira with happiness and contention.

Wa'alaykummusalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh,

No, I have never witness or met a revert when she did her shahadah in the masjid. Those who wish to announce their shahadah usually do so at the Islamic centre/organisation in front of an Ustaadh/Imaam at our place. Not pretty common to do it at the Masjid.

Anyways, I am very happy for you MashaAllah! May Allaah keep you strong in His path and make our imaan grow stronger day to day. To be honest, it's nice to have you around, Sister Alf :)

MashaAllaah, I'm glad you had a nice time sis.

First time I went to the masjid was with my Muslim and Athiest friend. I don't remember much but one thing I recall is seeing babies and toddlers with their mothers and thinking wow, they're so fortunate to be in a Masjid at this age.

I've witnessed someone taking shahada after taraweeh back in 2009. MashaAllaah everyone was crying. It was more emotional because it was in Ramadhan and I felt my eemaan went up a notch.

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,

Allah will ask on the Day of Judgment: “Where are those who loved each other for the sake of My glory? Today, on a day when there is no shade but Mine, I shall shade them with My shade.” (Muslim)

I pray that Allah subhanahu wa taala make us all among them.
