:salam2:

I pray that all of you brothers and sisters are well..inshallah!

Did any of you watch the documentary about the Qura'an which aired on Tuesday on the National Geographic Channel???!!!

When my brother called me to watch it..I knew it's something too good to be true...many of the things mentioned in the documentary made me bang my head against the couch with frustration...I don't know what they were thinking...especially with that German guy talking about different versions of the Qura'an???..THAT WAS INTERESTING!!!..move dots around and refer to the Syriac language to present the Qura'an???...SERIOUSLY???...

my little brother who is 14 and his knowledge of Islam is very general...poked through his arguments...like you'd poke a stick of butter with you finger!!!..I just wonder..if that guy was so intent on bringing out the TRUTH and ENLIGHTENING all the poor mislead Muslims out there..why doesn't he show his face and preach his stance with courage?????...

and why all the focus on Shi'as..Sufis..and Wahabbis???...I am a born Muslim and I was distrubed by the images of Shi'as beating themselves and saying so much blasphemy..along with that...they showed the ritualistic worship of Sufis...where did the Sunnis go???..they have to go pick the extremes of Islam!!!...and what about the term Orthodox Muslims?..HUH???!!!

I only liked one or two things about it..honestly..other than that..NOTHING..I liked NOTHING...with my humble knowledge..I can sit there and make a documentary..to correct and present facts for THEIR documentary...

They want to make the Qura'an sound contradicting :astag:...and that it is like the bible...skewed and messed with :astag:

BIAS IS AN UGLY..NASTY DISEASE!!!

La Hawla Wala Qowta Illa Billah!

Fain would they extinguish Allah's light with their mouths, but Allah will not allow but that His light should be perfected, even though the Unbelievers may detest (it). It is He Who hath sent His Messenger with guidance and the Religion of Truth, to proclaim it over all religion, even though the Pagans may detest (it). ~*~Al-Tawba:32-33~*~

Salaam,

I didn't see it, however this is typical Western media for you. They have non-Muslims trying to explain the Quran. That's like having a Hindu (with no knowledge of Christianity) trying to explain the Bible. Give me a break. Many times they select ignorant & uneducated Muslims to explain Islam so that it benefits their position and further supports their subliminal messages.

Salam,
I saw it too, I like you was sitting there wanting to throw something at these people. They kept said orthodox islam sees their worship as blasphemous, or yadda yadda. The woman from egypt not the one wearing hijab the other one w/o bothered me a little, she kept harping on how 30 yrs ago she never saw anyone wearing hijab and now all of a sudden there are women wearing it. its kind of like so what?! Why should that bother you if other women are choosing to cover, emphasizing choosing. And she said she's read the qur'an and she said she is convinced that she isn't required to cover, how can you read the qur'an and the hadiths and not see we are to be covered, when you choose to cover I believe is a choice, but I think ultimately we should be.
I didn't really get what was going on about that dot syrianic thing. Because they said that research showed that there was no contradiction in the words. So if there are no contradictions how is there a problem?
Yeah, the focus on Shi'as was a little disturbing. If I was a non-muslim watching that and saw all those muslims beating themselves like that I would definitely get the wrong idea especially since the majority of practioners who practice islam do not follow those practices. And I'm sorry I can't understand the explaination they gave as to why they pray to the imams and not to Allah. (thats a side note that doesn't have anything to really do with the show just me)
I can't figure out what their intentions are, bc normally National Geographic is a great station that promotes understanding like their program on Hajj it was actually a really good program.

Salaam,

Here is refutation you can use for people who make these false claims:

I watched it and it was pretty disturbing. I think they tried to project that they were unbiased but u can easily see the bias. They talked about the compilation of the quran and mentoned the excellent memory of the prophet (saws/pbuh) but forgot to mention that apart from writing it down on leather and other things, there were people who would memorize it immidiately so that there are no contradictions later.

I also did not understand the part where it spoke about the different versions and "placing the dots". Quran was (and is) memorised by millions of people so how can there be different versions.

It was disappointing to watch. Not worth my time.

I did a search on TTI for this program to see if anyone had already started a thread on it, and here it is...(yes I am resurrecting it, sorry!)

I saw this in August I believe it was of 2008, and as a non-Muslim at the time I found it to be rather interesting. It didn't keep me from becoming Muslim several months later. The idea behind the program was to show the Qur'an and how many different groups who call themselves "Muslim" interpret it.

Here is the link to the show's site:

http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/episode/inside-the-koran-3466/Overview

According to the website it will be aired again on Dec 22 at 6 AM (I have it set to record), and then again on Jan 10 I believe it is on prime time.

I'm wondering if we're discussing 2 different programs. The show I refer to is the one produced by the National Geographic. I think "Dispatches" is a produced & televised specifically in the UK, right?
