New to Islam

I am new to Islam but feel at home. I was raised Catholic but gave up my Faith years ago, as it felt forced and too many questions unanswered. The Quran has filled that void for me. Being an American, born and raised, I do have progressive thoughts and values that feel at odds with any strict religion but I have an open mind. I plan to move forward in my study of the Quran because I believe it is the word of God.

Welcome to islam, insha'Allah you will always stay on the straight path. Islam is very rewarding and life changing for the better. I reverted to Islam in only 2009 but I never see myself not being a Muslim.

I am also "progressive" and a liberal. Living in America I dont feel like I have to pick between liberalism and Islam.

The first thing you have to read is the fundamentals of Islaamic belief. This is a good book:

Explaining the Fundamentals of Faith by C. Ibn Uthaimeen rahimahu' Llah.

The best translation of the Qur'an I know of is this one:

Translation of the Meanings of the Noble Qur’an in the English Language. Written by: Dr. Muhammad Taqi-ud-Deen al-Hilali and Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan.
