Of course from all the news in the world CNN has to pick these kind of stories ..They will never write about abuse of their american women ,but of course they will write this propaganda about Saudi Women .....Ridiculous... They need to look at their own (so called) FREE country without any MORALS AND SHAME ..
But we as Muslims need to wake up and learn our religion .We need to show the world the true Islam is ,by best Manners and Morals ...This is what Muslims are lacking now days ,even basic manners ...We just get mad and blame the whole world ,when we need to change ourselves first ,then try to change our communities and then try to change the whole Ummah for the better ..

(CNN) -- Husbands are allowed to slap their wives if they spend lavishly, a Saudi judge said recently during a seminar on domestic violence, Saudi media reported Sunday.

Arab News, a Saudi English-language daily newspaper based in Riyadh, reported that Judge Hamad Al-Razine said that "if a person gives SR 1,200 [$320] to his wife and she spends 900 riyals [$240] to purchase an abaya [the black cover that women in Saudi Arabia must wear] from a brand shop and if her husband slaps her on the face as a reaction to her action, she deserves that punishment."

Women in the audience immediately and loudly protested Al-Razine's statement, and were shocked to learn the remarks came from a judge, the newspaper reported.

Arab News reported that Al-Razine made his remark as he was attempting to explain why incidents of domestic violence had increased in Saudi Arabia. He said that women and men shared responsibility, but added that "nobody puts even a fraction of blame" on women, the newspaper said.

Al-Razine "also pointed out that women's indecent behavior and use of offensive words against their husbands were some of the reasons for domestic violence in the country," it added.

Domestic violence, which used to be a taboo subject in the conservative kingdom, has become a hot topic in recent years. Groups like the National Family Safety Program have campaigned to educate the public about the problem and help prevent domestic abuse.

Saudi women's rights activist Wajeha Al-Huwaider told CNN that Saudi women routinely face such attitudes.

"This is how men in Saudi Arabia see women," she said in a telephone interview from the Saudi city of Dahran. "It's not something they read in a book or learned from a friend. They've been raised to see women this way, that they're less than a person."

Al-Huwaider added that "I'm not surprised to see a judge or a religious man saying that - they've been raised in the same culture - a culture that tells them it's ok to raise your hand to a woman that this works."

Another Saudi judge, in the city of Onaiza, was the source of a separate recent controversy: he twice denied a request from the mother of an 8-year-old girl that the girl be granted a divorce from her 47-year-old husband.

Last month, after human-groups condemned the union, the girl was granted the divorce

Firstly, CNN should turn their camera lenses towards US and compare the status of american women and Saudi women. Which women has better moral values and dignity? What being done in Saudi is to protect the modesty of their women and raise their moral values. That's not the case for women in the US who has to stripped naked in the bar to earn a living.

Why dont CNN make a Documentary on the Women of USA.....Where a Girl is Rape in Every 3 min.......2.8 Million prostitutes who walk on their streets are neither sign of Women Liberation.......Why Family is Still an Alien Concept in there Country....Why USA has highest Domestic Violence cases against women........First look on their countries women situation before lookin on saudi or afghan womens

I am saudi living in Saudi Arabia ....I admit that our sociaty is not perfectly islamic and both men and women need more islamic education (We are not angels ) but sorry to say that among us many hybocrates and blind follower of the west who are trying to dig in our sociaty and attact values of islam........... we all muslems in the world need to support the good schollars and active muslems in Arabia who are trying to defend the good islamic values that many are trying to destroy it in our society ....We are suffering from this attitude which is picking wholes in our society to blame Islam and we all know that Islam is perfect and all our problem is lack of Islam. Due to our weakness in many areas some people look to the west as an example ......and attack Higab and the good rules that our sociaty were enjoying.

Asalaamualaykum,

I think you guys are missing the point, the issue is not what they do as compared with what we do!

Should we not correct ourselves without comparing our behaviour to theirs?!

I dont care what justification someone puts forward for attacking a woman, the point is it opens the door and breeds more violence, resentment and hatred. I'm sure anyone can solve any problem either within a marriage or to their daughters and female siblings if they applied their brain without using violence. And before any one starts quoting me the ayah from sura Nisaa, remember that even the scholars have ikhtilaaf on what it means exactly or how to apply it.

So lets forget what others are saying about us or what they themselves are doing and have a good look at ourselves and correct all that is wrong within our societies and broken countries according to the Qur'an and the Sunnah of our Rasool (sallalahualayhi wassallam).

I tried to look up this news and verify it, if it was being reported by multiple newspapers in Saudi or not. I have only found this news on so called 'Arab News' (about whom I have frankly not ever heard before). Basically other western networks have picked up this news from them.

I also tried to look up arabic news articles with the name of the judge "Hamad al Razine" and didnt get any news result which was similar to the women issue.

Since you are living in Saudi, have you read this news somewhere else ? or watched on television news etc ?

No, I didn`t hear about such thing, .......And I agree that we have problems in our societies due to ignorance and human nature otherwise if we follow Islam perfectly our society will be ideal, but please never listen to the westren media and their alliances: they are picking only negative aspects. And for sure our society compared to the west is ideal concerning respect and honor given to women , still we are seeking more by establishing islamic values. And Allah knows best.

I agree with you sister 100%, actually this what Allah swt told us in Quran:

5:74 Why turn they not to Allah, and seek His forgiveness? For Allah is Oft- forgiving, Most Merciful.

We should repent from any kind of misconduct bad manners and treat others in the most noble way men or women .

we should never feel that we are ideal or perfect since we (humans) are very far from perfectness .

Assalamu Allicum

I think that we should never try to avoid to see some problems that acure in our society or to try to compere them with others and on some way to find a justification or atleast to lessen its consequences.

Islamic society and west society are not the same due to many reasons and the main one is that we do not leave by same rules. But what is simular in both socities and judged too is any kind of violence.

It is not really vise to say "this happend in our society" but "look what is happening in theirs, it can not be compered". Yes it is true it can not be compered, but sometimes comparations are good lesson and can help us to corect our mistakes.

As long as we stick to Quran and Sunnah we will have healthy society and healty individuls in that society.

Medias like CNN are there to inform, to report and our assigment is to verify are the informations and news like this or any other truthfull.

But regarding one thing there are and should not exsist any doubt, and that is that we should juge every form of violence, it does not metter did it happend in our or any other society.

PS: Husbands that think that it is alowed for them to "slap their wifes" and every other man that "slaps a woman" and this one that got married with 8 year old child, Asstagfirulah, Astagfirulah" should prepare themselves for Allahs punishment, Inshallah.

May Allah guide us all
