PROHIBITION OF DEPICTING ANIMATE LIFE/ drawing

One should realize that the prohibition of picture making is EXTREMELY SEVERE, that it is counted among the enormities, and the threats against doing it are very emphatic. Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim relate that a man came to Ibn Abbas (Allah be well pleased with him and his father) and said, “My livelihood comes solely from my hands, and I make these pictures. Can you give me a legal opinion about them” Ibn Abbas told him, “Come closer,’ and the man did. “Closer,” he said, and the man did, until he put his hand on the man’s head and said: “Shall I tell you what I heard from the Messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammed (Allah bless him and give him peace) I heard the Messenger of Allah say, “Every maker of pictures will go to the fire, where a being will be set upon him to torment him in hell for each picture he made. So if you must, draw tress and things without animate life in them.”



i read the above from one article

can anyone explain tat drawing is truely prohibited by allah??(is it from quran)
then even most of them now a days maki picture n animation movies ! greatest painters r also frm islam ..

i think that you should ask a sheikh at your local masjid.

there are various feelings about this topic. i interpret the images as being haram if the intention was to commit shirk. i don't wear clothing with people, animals or characters on them because that is a type of shirk.

a pic of the virgin mary used by the catholics is shirk because they use that picture or statue during worship but most importantly those images are considered sacred to the followers, meaning that any disrespect given the images would be considered blasphemous.

you will find many different opions on the matter.

in islam, there will always be a debate about MUSIC, SMOKING, HIJAB, RIBAA, AND PICTURES.

Actually there is rarely any need for discussion on many of the issues abdur-rahman mentions. Why? we have many reliable scholars who give reliable opinions based on evidence.

smoking, its harmful to your health, why would anyone think its lawful??

ribaah, one of the worst sins, one of the most warned against sin in the Quraan and Sunnaah... There is only one scholar out of hundreds of scholars who gave an opinion on this. It is a clear cut matter, to everyone except those who are dealing with it.
