MashaAllah tabarakAllah,may Allah accept from you and from us.Ameen.
Patience is my first tip brother.You might feel bit heavy throughout day on your first day,so be patient,inshaAllah gradually you will be habitual.
Secondly drink lot's of fluid during suhoor time and after iftaar time,water is a good hydrant and the best fluid.Make sure to have a healthy suhoor and iftar inshaAllah,by healthy I mean nutritious.

salam aleikum wa rahmatulahy wa barakatuh

Inchallah all will be well in your first Ramadan, last year was my first alhamdullilah and i experinced new feelings....

What i would advice you is to be busy all the time, in reading, studies, prayer. I was at work and i was busy but when i got home until maghrib time where stille 2 hours left, the hardest hours, so i used to sleep, even 1 hour or 30 min, after i started cooking.

What is the most beautifull thing is that when the day finnish and is time to eat, you will feel so much joy and peace, inchallah...even if i used to eat alone usually.... i felt Allah will take care of me, same with you, to help you.

Walaikum Ssalaam dear brother!

Impressed! :)

Now its time for you to prepare. InshaAllah, you too will feel impressed when you experience the bounties of month of Ramlaan :)

So here is the list of to do before Ramlaan arrives:
1. Learn about fasting , its rules , what invalidates it, conditions for women, patients and travellers, its virtues;

2. Learn about Ramlaan, the special prayers, the rewards for good deeds in this month, the nights of lailathul qadr.

3. Try some preparatory fasting (Voluntary ). Say, a total of 7-8 days with breaks in between. Remember you will be fasting from dawn break untill sunset. And number of hours will depend on the part of world you are in, during Ramlaan. Start with half duration, then proceed to fulfill. That way you know how your body responds, and your body would get used to fasting, by time Ramlaan arrives.

Here are the suggested days of fasting on months other than Ramlaan
http://islamqa.info/en/ref/69781

Also please know the days when it is forbidden to fast (applies to men) -- Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-Ul-Adha and if you are sacrificing an animal then three days after eid-ul-adha

Hope all these strengthens you both physically and mentally. May Allah help and guide you , in fulfilling your Obligations ... Ameen
