سنن ابن ماجه وصححه الألباني .

It is narrated from Abu Hurayrah [Radi Allahu anhu] that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said,

“When it is the first night of Ramadan the evil devils are chained. The gates of Fire are locked- not a single gate is opened, and the gates of Paradise are opened- not a single gate is locked, and a caller calls out : ’O seeker of good come forth! and O seeker of evil withhold! and there are many whom Allah frees from the Fire – and that is every night.”

[Reported by ibn Majah and graded authentic by Sh. Al-Albani]

Lessons from the Hadith

Shaykh al-Sindi [rahimahullah] explains this hadith:

-“The evil devils are chained “ This does not mean that people will not sin because not all sins are from the devils.

-“The gates of Fire are locked “ They are closed and locked to keep the slave far away from the Fire and the punishment. This shows that the gates of Hell-Fire are open outside of Ramadan.

- “and the gates of Paradise are opened “ They are opened out of mercy for the slave. This shows that the gates of Paradise are locked outside of Ramadan.

- “and a caller calls out “ Even though the people do not hear this caller, we will know that every night this occurs and so it becomes a motivation and lesson.

- “’O seeker of good “ Meaning, the one who desires goodness.

-“ come forth! “ Come forth to good deeds and righteous actions, because it is your choice and your affair if you wish to receive a great reward for small actions.

-“ O seeker of evil withhold! “ Withhold from sinning, and repent.

-Every night, there are slaves who are removed from the Hell-Fire. We should strive every night to be among those who are among those Allah (ta’ala) frees from the Hell-Fire.
