It is still often repeated by the ignorant and at times even by those who are prejudice toward Islam that Muslims spread their religion by forced conversions and that they killed those just because of religion. As an ex-Christian, I have spent a while researching this claim and now being a Muslim I still have been researching this topic hard and have found it to be a repeated lie which has no basis in history nor reality a all. Here are a few quotes from historians, non-Muslims and Christian ones who admit the truth about Islam:
EDWARD GIBBON: "The greatest success of Mohammad's life was effected by sheer moral force without the stroke of a sword." HISTORY OF THE SARACEN EMPIRE, London, 1870.
A.S. TRITTON: "The picture of the Muslim soldier advancing with a sword in one hand and the Qur'an in the other is quite false." ISLAM, London, 1951, page 21. (12)
DE LACY O'LEARY: "History makes it clear, however, that the legend of fanatical Muslims, sweeping through the world and forcing Islam at the point of sword upon conquered races is one of the most fantastically absurd myths that historians have ever repeated." ISLAM AT CROSSROADS, London, 1923, page 8.
JAMES A MICHENER: "No other religion in history spread so rapidly as Islam... The West has widely believed that this surge of religion was made possible by the sword. But no modern scholar accepts that idea, and the Qur'an is explicit in support of the freedom conscience." ISLAM - THE MISUNDERSTOOD RELIGION, READERS' DIGEST (American Edition) May 1955.
LAWRENCE E. BROWNE: "Incidentally these well-established facts dispose of the idea so widely fostered in Christian writings that the Muslims, wherever they went, forced people to accept Islam at the point of the sword." THE PROSPECTS OF ISLAM, London 1944.
I think the above are more than enough but there are many more such as Franz Rosenthal and Thomas W Arnold who wrote a great deal about Islam, its spread and tolerance all over the world, and we have some who will still repeat this lie and the strangest of all things is that it is commonly done by some Christians and they supposedly follow "though shall not lie", I guess there will always be those wishing to slander their enemy with anything and for them anyway works as long as they say something no matter how false. I had to learn this the hard way and never again will I accept something blindly without research. I was taught all kinds of myths, slanders and lies about Islam by my own people and I had to learn for myself and put my hatred, prejudices and ideas to a side and accept reality and truth. It is because of love for truth and honesty that our brother Malcolm X (May Allah have mercy on him) found the truth of Islam and the same goes for me. I will strive never to lie or bring my enemy down in a dishonest way.
