As-salaamu’Alaykum wa’Rahmatullaahi wa’Barakatuh,
This thread is more of a reminder and slightly a question as to your experience.
Alhamdu’lillaah, many of us have gained so much from this website about our Religion and its beauty. This can be seen from the many threads that are created that speak about what Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta’aala) says, what the Prophet
said and the great statements of the pious predecessors (As-Salaf as-Saalih).
But, even then, we are still lacking in knowledge, implementation of it and making sure that our faith is like a rock so to speak. This website/forum is a great stepping stone in learning more about our Religion and we are all in desperate need of learning more so as to help our faith. For example, when you ponder on the words that we utter in our lives every day - “Allaahu Akbar,” - do we really understand the Magnificence of Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta’aala) when uttering these words?
Recently, I was reading the beauty of the bee and how Allaah inspired it. It is really is amazing and shows us the power of Allaah. Then about the other animals that Allaah created and blessed them with stunning characteristics. How Allaah mentions His Attributes in the Qur’aan and the saheeh ahaadeeth such as His Hands and the things He created with His Hands, His Greatness and being far, far above what some people say about Him and many other examples.
When you learn about this you realise your own position in this world and how we have to maintain and strive in our acts of worship. And in all the situations that we are in we also remember the One that Sees and Hears everything! I think it also shows that we need to strive more in learning about Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta’aala) so that we know Him purely from what the Qur’aan says and what the Prophet
told us.
Subhaan’Allaah, this is where any right-minded person can see that the Fear of Allaah arises when you learn more about Him and His Names and Attributes.
That’s why when you read the aayaat:
There is not a moving (living) creature on earth, nor a bird that flies with its two wings, but are communities like you. We have neglected nothing in the Book, then unto their Lord they (all) shall be gathered.
Those who reject Our aayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) are deaf and dumb in the darkness. Allah sends astray whom He wills and He guides on the Straight path whom He wills.
(Qur’aan 6: 38-39)
All you can say is Subhaan’Allaah. This is the reminder, Insha’Allaah let us learn more about Allaah so that we know Him and Fear Him as He should be feared, and when you question yourself, you know the only way to Fear Him is to know Him from the Qur’aan and Sunnah of the Prophet
Then you can see why Tawheed and having the correct ‘Aqeedah is so important because when you have a solid foundation you are able to build upon it. If you do not fully understand the magnificence of Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta’aala) then how will you be able to fully obey Him and continue to develop your faith?
I think that would be difficult for anyone, what do you think?
Subhaan’Allaah, in Shaykh Muhammad Saalih al-Uthaymeen’s (rahimahullaah) book ‘The Benefits of Fearing Allaah” it says in the footnote in relation to the meaning of taqwa:
Abu al-Darda (radhiyAllaahu anh) said,
‘The complete form of taqwa is to fear Allaah so much that one begins to fear Him from the potential sin a mustard seed and until one leaves what might be halaal in the fear that it could be haraam based on the verse, So whoever does an atom’s amount of good, he will see it; and whoever does an atom’s amount of evil, he will see it.’
So do not prohibit any goodness. Do not underestimate any evil and protect yourself from it.’
Abu Hurayrah (radhiyAllaahu anh) was asked about taqwa so he asked the questioner whether he had trodden a thorn infested path. The man said he did. Abu Hurayrah asked him how he walked on it. The man said, ‘When I saw a thorn, I kept away from it because I might be pricked by it.’ Abu Hurayrah (radhiyAllaah anh) said, ‘That is exactly what means (to take actions to avoid sins).’
I guess this relates to our families as well as because when you learn more about
Allaah we have obstacles, such as saying that we are going too extreme or looked upon as strange for our practices. And then at the other end we have under-estimation by people thinking someone is pious because of his beard or the way she dresses. And reverts can face similar or different obstacles such as backlash.
You can see then how we should advise people to learn about Allaah (subhaanahu wa ta’aala) so that they are upon Tawheed and have the correct ‘Aqeedah, because with this it will build them soundly to continue in increasing their knowledge in other important matters. For example looking back, I can see that knowing Allaah properly is what is foremost and then the other important matters follow, rather than the other way around, you need to learn how to walk before you can start running, is that not true? This is the foundation which will
Insha’Allaah be the pillar in our faith.
Insha’Allaah I haven’t spoken from my desires, I remind myself first so that I implement what I mentioned and then remind others.
Walaykum-us-Salaam wa'Rahmatullaahi wa'Barakatuh.
