Here is the english translation of Saddam Hussein's final letter. I know that Saddam has done truly bad things but as I see him being taken over to the gallows to be hanged I feel sadness. If Saddam is guilty of crimes against humanity so are Bush and Blair.

In the name of God, the compassionate, the merciful.
"They had made a covenant with God that they would not turn back in flight, and a covenant with God must be answered for." [Koranic verse]

Iraq, 28 April, 2003

From Saddam Hussein to the great Iraqi people, the sons of the Arab and Islamic nation, and honourable people everywhere.

Peace be upon you, and the mercy and blessings of God.

Just as Hulaku entered Baghdad, the criminal Bush entered it, with Alqami, or rather, more than one Alqami.*

They did not conquer you - you who reject the occupation and humiliation, you who have Arabism and Islam in your hearts and minds - except through betrayal.

Indeed, it is not a victory while there is still resistance in your souls.

What we used to say has now become reality, for we do not live in peace and security while the deformed Zionist entity is on our Arab land; therefore there is no rift in the unity of the Arab struggle.

Sons of our great people:

Rise up against the occupier and do not trust anyone who talks of Sunni and Shia, because the only issue that the homeland - your great Iraq - faces now is the occupation.

There are no priorities other than driving out the infidel, criminal, cowardly occupier. No honourable hand is held out to shake his, but, rather, the hand of traitors and collaborators.

I say to you that all the countries surrounding you are against your resistance, but God is with you because you are fighting unbelief and defending your rights.

The traitors have allowed themselves to declare their treachery, even though it is shameful, so declare your rejection of the occupier for the sake of great Iraq, for the nation, for Islam and for humanity.

Iraq - together with the sons of the nation and the people of honour - and we shall restore the stolen relics and rebuild Iraq which they (may God bring shame upon them) wish to split into pieces.

Saddam has no property in his own name and I defy anyone to prove that there were palaces except in the name of the Iraqi state. I left them a long time ago to live in a small house.

Forget everything and resist the occupation, because error begins when there are priorities other than the occupier and his expulsion. Remember that they are aiming to bring in those who will fight one another so that your Iraq will remain weak and they can plunder it as they have been doing.

Your party, the Arab Ba'ath Socialist party, is proud that it did not extend its hand to the Zionist enemy and did not give in to the cowardly American or British aggressor.

Whoever stands against Iraq and plots against it will not prosper in peace at the hands of America.

Greetings to everyone who resists, to every honourable Iraqi citizen, and to every woman, child and sheikh in our great Iraq.

United, and the enemy and the traitors who came in with him will flee. Know that the one with whom the invading forces came, whose planes flew to kill you, will send you nothing but poison.

God willing, the day of liberation and victory will come, for us, for the nation, and above all for Islam. This time, as always when right triumphs, the days to come will be more beautiful.

Take care of your possessions, your departments, and your schools. Boycott the occupier. Boycott him, for this is a duty towards Islam, religion and the homeland.

Long live great Iraq and its people.

Long live Palestine, free and Arab from the river to the sea.**

God is greatest.

May the despicable ones be despised.

Saddam Hussein 26 Safar, 1424***

Notes

* Hulaku, the grandson of Genghis Khan, sacked Baghdad in 1258 AD and went on to attack Syria, where his Mongol forces were defeated at the battle of Ayn Jalut ("Goliath's Well") in 1260. Alqami was a non-Arab Shia who betrayed Baghdad to the Mongols but was then killed by them because they realised he was untrustworthy

** From the river Jordan to the Mediterranean sea - a phrase commonly used by those who do not recognise Israel

*** Islamic date equivalent to 28 April 2003

Assalamu Alaikum,

I found this on the CBC website; the translation of the letter written just before Saddam was executed. The 2003 letter must have been his last official letter before having to go underground (quite literally).

To the great nation, to the people of our country, and humanity:

Many of you have known the writer of this letter to be faithful, honest, caring for others, wise, of sound judgment, just, decisive, careful with the wealth of the people and the state … and that his heart is big enough to embrace all without discrimination.

You have known your brother and leader very well, and he never bowed to the despots and, in accordance with the wishes of those who loved him, remained a sword and a banner. This is how you want your brother, son or leader to be … and those who will lead you … should have the same qualifications.

Here, I offer my soul to God as a sacrifice, and if He wants, He will send it to heaven with the martyrs, or, He will postpone that … so let us be patient and depend on Him against the unjust nations.

Remember that God has enabled you to become an example of love, forgiveness and brotherly coexistence…

I call on you not to hate because hate does not leave a space for a person to be fair and it makes you blind and closes all doors of thinking and keeps away one from balanced thinking and making the right choice…

I also call on you not to hate the peoples of the other countries that attacked us and differentiate between the decision-makers and people … Anyone who repents — whether in Iraq or abroad — you must forgive him …

You should know that among the aggressors, there are people who support your struggle against the invaders, and some of them volunteered for the legal defence of prisoners, including Saddam Hussein …

Some of these people wept profusely when they said goodbye to me …

Dear faithful people, I say goodbye to you, but I will be with the merciful God who helps those who take refuge in him and who will never disappoint any faithful, honest believer. … God is great … God is great … Long live our nation … Long live our great struggling people … Long live Iraq, long live Iraq … Long live Palestine … Long live jihad and the mujahideen.

[signed] Saddam Hussein

President and Commander in Chief of the Iraqi Mujahid Armed Forces

Additional clarification note:

I have written this letter because the lawyers told me that the so-called criminal court — established and named by the invaders — will allow the so-called defendants the chance for a last word. But that court and its chief judge did not give us the chance to say a word, and issued its verdict without explanation and read out the sentence — dictated by the invaders — without presenting the evidence. I wanted the people to know this.

Additionally, I thought I would share a link to Saddam's last two and a half minutes on Earth. There've been many false and hateful videos circulating across the internet of Saddam's hanging, and it took me quite some time to find the genuine one. I know that this is a very sensitive matter, and offer the link only as a Historical fact - not to offend or incite hate. This is what happened. Perhaps someone who speaks Arabic would be so kind as to translate what is being said?

If the Admins decide that this video on the fact of the matter is vehemently inappropriate, please remove the previous paragraph from my post. I do hope that this won't be the case, though, as I personally feel that people have a right to hear and see this historically significant event.

Wasalaam.

Assalamu Alaykum Brandon, No, Its OK..

Basically there are a Bunch of Rafidah (i.e Shiite) and they are chanting very inappropriate Slogans. Inappropriate because this government is meant to be balanced and the Trial of Saddam Hussein was meant to be "fair" and for all Iraqis. Instead it is one of the Shiite liars trying to get as much power as possible and making the country even more divided.

Instead, his ending is one of Secular division and hatred. :( - They call out the name of Moqtada Sadr - An evil Shiite cleric, his men kidnap and drill holes into Muslim people. The US Gov does not care, they dont care about the Iraqi people as long as they get their Oil.

After the Rawafidah chant their rubbish, President Saddam Hussein states that these clerics will go hell. -

Saddam says the Shahada 2 or 3 times, and just when he is saying it they kill him. :(

- Islamically, we can not state whether or not he was Muslim. It is true that early times there was Fatwa from Shaykh Abdul Aziz ibn Baz (Rahimahullah) stating he was non-Muslim (based on his baathis communist stance) That was some time ago. However, we do not know what state a person leaves this world, only Allah knows. He certainly did state the Shahada (declaration of faith) before being executed by the enemies of Islam. May Allah forgive him.

He did do crimes against humanity, but in Shariah a murderer who is punished in this world for their crimes is not punished in the next life. - That is the basis of the punishment.

(As a side note Hanging is not a prescribed method of punishment for murder, rather it is beheading. If the victims family forgive him then thats accepted, if the victims family accept blood money then this is OK too)

Wa'Alaikum Salaam, Brother,

Thank you, but I must insist on asking again for exactly what is being said. This is an important historic event, and even though I may not understand the language I can sense that this execution is full of prejudice and hate.

Nothing like this sham would ever be allowed to follow-through in Europe or N. America; even if justice wasn't being served, at least we'd have the decency of making it appear like proper justice. This doesn't appear to be professional at all...

Please, as best as you can, translate what is audible in chronological order as precisely as you can - for my benefit as well as for the other brothers and sisters who don't yet speak Arabic. I thank you kindly, especially concidering it will likely not be a pleasant translation to perform.

Very important point raised.

Mabsoot, could you please quote where you got that information from? I donot think it is correct...

And yes, prescribed method of punishment is beheading. However, considering the number of family affected by his actions, it would be very difficult to get declaration from all that he be forgiven or not.

He certainly did state the Shahada (declaration of faith) before being executed.
we muslims can't justify any executation regardless of his faith
In Islam the end of one's life is the most important, meaning may be some one is bad but makes Tauba repentance then it is between him and Allah.
Allah the master of Jugement.
ا لحمد للّه he made the shahada so ءانشا ء الله
may Allah forgive him.
only Allah has the rigth to JUGE
I will tell you a little history. ...... during the time of beni Israel they were
two brothers one of them always performed salat , hassanat,,,,,and so on
the other one was just the opossite........
so the first one told his brother ...ALLAH will never forgive you.......
you will never enter paradise........ALLAh will never forgive you
so ALLAH (swt) SAID WHO has TAKEN MY RIGHT , AND WHO IS MAKING A JUGEMENT for me ?
HE ALLAH (swt) order the angels to write down the brother who was
saying ALLAH wil never forgive you to go the jahannam and forgave
the other brother and gave to him the Jennah (paradise)
ALLAH (swt) is the MASTER OF JUGEMENT don't take his place
......one of the Compagnonsر صي ا للّه عنه of the Prophetصلى ا للّه عليه و سلم
killed a man they told the Prophet صلى ا للّه عليه و سلم that he said the shahada
and nevertheless was killed the Prophet صلى ا للّه عليه و سلم was very angry and
his compagnon told him ya rasuloallah he only said the shahada out of fear
and the Prophet said ''' could you see inside his heart ??????

May Allah forgive him and receive him among the Martyrs

He supported Falasteen (Palestine) and Yasser Arafat to kill the Zionists, and yes, he did make atrocities against the Kurds and Shias but he did help his brothers and was firm to Allah like he used to his blood to write a Quran and he holded a Quran during the trials in court and he made the Shahada a lot of times and shouted Allhu Akbar and he's an old man so those are my reason's that I prayed for Allah to forgive him and :astag: I took it back but then made more dua for him.

You rang the doorbell bro! Yeah, he's muslim, but let's say there was a boy you went a haraam website called Myspace (don't try it) and looked at these temptating pictures and stuff, does that mean he's a non-muslim? no, it means he's a bad muslim and inshallah they get guided. Oh, and I get mixed up, what's the differance between a mushrikun and a kafr? Can any bro/sis tell me the definitions? >_<

Oh, and I get mixed up, what's the differance between a mushrikun and a kafr?

To my knowledge,
mushrik = polytheist(one who associate partners with Allah or believes in multiple gods)

kafir = disbeliever

plural of mushrik is mushrikoon & plural of kafir is kafiroon.

But I don't know how Allah treats with them differently. May be some others can add more..

I heard on IslamQA that a muslim who doesn't do Salat is a kaaafir. Actually, that's kinda true because then they don't say salaam, read Quran, or even use hijab [if they're a (muslim) girl] and then you would never had thought they were muslim!
