Safety in the kitchen

Following basic safety rules in the kitchen can help reducing the chance of accidents.
Here are some safety guidelines assessing you and your family to enjoy your time in the kitchen:

• Pay attention to what you are cooking on the stove, don’t go for phone calls for example.
• Always clean up spills to prevent falls.
• Close cabinet doors & drawers when done.
• Use a steady step to reach for things, don’t step on unstable objects.
• Use the proper lifting technique (bend the knees and use the legs to lift), especially when you’re carrying a heavy or hot liquids & clear the path you intend to take it to.
• When using a knife, cut away from the body on a proper cutting surface.
• Keep the blades sharp & clear.
• Don’t try to catch a dropping knife, step back instead.
• Never leave knives lying in water as it can injure any unsuspecting dishwasher.
• Return knives to their proper storage area when done working with them.
• Use protective equipments when needed.
• Use oven mitts or holder when handling hot dishes.
• Never leave pan handles over burners on the stove.
• Keep hot dishes out of reach of others to avoid burns.
• Keep flammable materials or towels away from range or stove.
• Check that all burners & oven are off when finished.
• If a pan is on fire shut off the heat & tightly cover with lid.
• Never pour water on a fire involving grease.
• Use a fire blanket, fire extinguisher or baking soda to put out fire.
