Salaam to my Brothers and Sisters,
Recently, this family has experienced losses of a heart-wrenching magnitude. Death is never easy, and it can be even more complicated when we are separated from those we love. Our world may be getting smaller due to the world wide web, but there are times, such as during grief, when the world is just too big.
Each society in this world has their own customs and traditions surrounding death. Each, meaningful and important to that person and the societal group that they belong to and religious belief that they ascribe to. While we may be separated by these traditions, we all have one very important thing in common. We all die. Besides birth, death is the only other thing that binds us all into a family of humanity.
Some customs are more known than others. Some are less understood. Some are hidden from view and protected. Because of the recent events here in this family, and my own need to want to provide comfort but also to not unwittingly cause more hurt by making a tradition error, I searched for information.
I did not find out what I wanted, but I found out something I never knew. I share that information to you now. I showed this information first to Moderator Al-Kashmiri to examine for authenticity and he has approved this posting. I hope that it provides both valuable information and comfort.

I have just completed creating a PDF file that I've now attached in the event that anyone prefers to store the information on their computers.

http://www.missionislam.com/knowledge/janazahstepbystep.htmThe message of Islam covers all aspects of life, commanding all things that will benefit a person in this life and the hereafter.
This includes caring for this person when he dies by making dua’ for him, washing and shrouding his body, performing Salatul Janazah for him ( Where people pray and ask Allah to forgive him and have mercy on him ), then putting him in the grave.
The caring extends to his family too, by comforting his relatives, sharing with them their sorrow, and offering them condolences, sympathy and support.
Hoping to fill the need for a simplified Janazah guide to all Muslims, I have followed the method described in the authentic Hadiths, explanatory step by step notes and several illustrated drawings.
I have also included an introduction on importance of following the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.), and an explanation of scholars’ ruling on issues which should be known by every Muslim.
I have just completed creating a PDF file that I've now attached in the event that anyone prefers to store the information on their computers.
