Imaam Ibnul Qayyim said in his works;

"…anything done in large quantities hardens and weakens the heart; laughing too much hardens the heart, talking too much can harden and kill the heart, over eating or drinking overly socializing can weaken the heart.

However
, the only thing that you can overly indulge in, in this dunya no matter how many times you do it and it will not harm your heart is legal intercourse with ones spouse…” [Source: Imaam Ibnul Qayyim’s work - The Blessings of Intimacy and The Pleasures of Marital Relations]

"If the Night of Decree was some night during the entire year, I’d stand in night prayer the entire year to get it. So what do you suppose should be done for merely ten nights?" (Ibn Qayyim, Badaa’i Al Fawaaid 1/55)

Ibn Qayyim-Al-Jawziyyah:

"Du’a is one of the most beneficial cures and the enemy of fitnah (evils and trials) , wards it off and treats it, prevents it to happen and cures it if it happens. Du’a is the weapon of the believer.” [Ad-Da’, P 11]

The above excerpt was indeed written by Ibn Qayyim and although the 'gangs' that he referred to differed enormously from those of today and of the last few centuries as well, there were also many similarities, hence the comparison between the two. The 'gangs' he was referring to were in short groups of thieves and organised criminals, less sophisticated than today, yet nevertheless unified in their aims to steal from society.

"Every love that leads away from His love [Allah] is in fact a punishment; only a love that leads to His love is a heartfelt and pure love." (Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah)

“Generosity is one of the Attributes of Allah; He gives and does not take; He feeds and is not fed; and He is the Most Generous One. The most beloved to Him is whoever acquires the same traits; He is Generous and He loves the generous; He is Knowledgeable and He loves the knowledgeable; He is Powerful and He loves the courageous; and He is Beautiful and He loves beauty.” (Ibn Qayyim)

Ibn Qayyim's famous book, Al Fawa'id is known to all of us today as a collection of gems and wonders, but few of us will be aware of the time, effort and constraints it took to compile such a book. Even fewer of us may be able to explain accurately the purpose or focus of the book at the time of writing.

The following excerpt below by the English translator of the book provides a glimpse of such an undertaking by Ibn Qayyim.

"He focusses on the role and duty of the hearts, and makes them clear to us the extent that we are moved and motivated to learn and practice them. He explains to us the diseases of the heart so that we may know how to avoid and overcome them. He ponders on the depths of the nature of the human self and move inside its hidden sphere, from one part to the other, which may be difficult for many people to understand.

This book has reached the peak of understanding regarding this particular point. Ibn Al Qayyim is renowned in the field of ascetics and one of the most knowledgeable people of Allah."
