One of the Salaf used to say, “If you want to be close to Allâh then put an iron wall between yourself and your desires.”

If you wanna feel what happiness is, you can follow your desires but if you wanna feel what peace is, then you will have to follow ALLAH AZZAWAJAL's orders..

I have heard one as well do i think it was in a lecture by Bilal Asad

Where he mentioned

The Deen to the true believer is like the crown on his head (like a king) and the dunya was on the palm of their hands.If when the crown on the head would tilt a bit.. They would put the dunya on the ground.. fix the crown (deen) and then would pick the dunya back up in their hands again.
