بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ​




Sufyân ath-Thawrî (rahimahullâh) said, “Do not seek leadership except after fighting the soul (i.e., fighting your desires and self) for seventy years.”

This must be thought of as advice, not ruling, since it is well known that many prominent Salaf have sought and gotten leadership before they were seventy.

Yes, if one looks in context of the advices given in hadith, usually when the term "seventy" is indicated by Muhammad or the Companions, peace upon them, it does not refer to the actual number 70, but rather has the meaning of in general "many times" (more than one could really count or keep track of)
