Study about Islam

Hi.

Many people here use to tell me in different discussions that most important is to study about Islam and learn those things by myself. I really want to do it. I would like to ask you to recommand me some basic literature about Islam. I have Koran but I dont mean holly books. I need to teach about Islamic scholars, different teachings, you know - this theory around it. Than I will read holly books too and also after I will learn some basic review about scholars of Islam, I could read their own works too to work with some primary literature as well.

Thank you for recomendations. Btw I am from Slovakia so those books wont be easy to get there I think. So I think I will have to look for some internet e-book sources. I know there is library in here so I will check it out as well.

To my signature - maybe you didnt understand it because it speaks for the goodness of muslims and not against them. People use to say muslim = terrorist, but its obviously not so.

Anyway thats not the topic. Thank you for the videos. Maybe I will find time to watch them. There are plenty books for laiks, also tv shows. I would prefer some classic literature, maybe more complicated but to get the true view about Islam.

Hi TiLK :)

i would suggest below link which explains Quran in more detail
http://www.tafsir.com/

PS. there is so much to learn about islam! "easy cut" would be to go for anything that might make you doubtful about islam and ask us about it. as soon as the misconception is cleared, then TiLK is a muslim :D

May Allah guide you to the right path :)

I am currently reading The Vision of Islam by Sachiko Murata and William C. Chittick. I think it's a great read for anyone wanting to know more about Islam in a basic way, but in a theoretical way as well. It does a great job of looking at things objectively, too. You can get it off Amazon used for like $10. I hope this helps.

1. Commanders of the Muslim Army by: Mahmood Ahmed Ghandafar
http://www.darussalam.com/product_info.php?cPath=71_11&products_id=169
I listed the above, because you were curious about Muslim conquest.

2. Umar Ibn Al Khattab, His life and Times by : Dr Ali Muhammad Sallabi

http://www.darussalam.com/product_info.php?cPath=71_11&products_id=856

You can find many more on the site. I did not list anymore, because rest of the books were too concise.

In case anyone is wondering I have no read all these books.

:wasalam:

P.S. Above books should give you a general understanding of Islam. Its Prophet, disciples, origin, basic introduction to creed, conquest, etc etc.

Perhaps some one can recommend some books that are comprehensive?

Oh my friend! You are not right. When you take a look at all discussions I made here on TTI forum you will see that this was the path I have chosen first. But some of you were already tired of answering my endless questions and advised me to study by myself, since it can give me more reliable and complex answers.

It's not that people are tired of answering your question. I was on of the people who recommended that if you're really eager to learn then you might as well study Islam.
When you ask a question, you will get many different responses, many different ideas, etc etc... sometimes it can be confusing. One answer inevitably raises several other questions. Plus, if you're so curious it will be a pleasure for you to study. By having a general study of Islam, you will be able to come up with your own perspective instead of relying upon ours.

I hope that clears up the misunderstanding :)

asalam alaikum , i need to know arabic and if you can help me where i can found hadith , how i can learn arabic beacouse i want to be understanding what they are teaching in mosque, thank you may allah proctet you

Walaykum Salaam,

Brother, check the Learn Arabic section on the forum, Insha'Allaah you will find something useful there - if not create a thread and Insha'Allaah someone will try to help [i would state a method now but i will refrain].

http://www.turntoislam.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=70

You can find Hadith from many places [on the Internet i don't know sadly], your best starting with something like - Riyaad-us-Saaliheen [it contains only authentic hadith].

http://www.darussalam.com/product_info.php?cPath=71_20&products_id=206

Also, Bulugh-al-Maram is an excellent book too:

Insha'Allaah this helps.

Alhamdu'Lillaah.

salam aikoum

salam alikoum,
really nice to see a brother/sister here from slovakia, you are welcomed...
i guess the best way to start is to begin with the basics, the elements of belief, the pillars of islam, the prayers,.....and then try to ask for more knowledge, because islam is wide as the width of the ocean, so it will take you your life to learn it well.
the best way is to make sure you understand the meaning of the shahada and the beliefs in islam.....because this is the most important step, we call it in arabic the "akida of tawhid". even if you start with some mistakes , be sure that allah will accept your worship as he accept from the pious, those who fear allah.
on the net, you will find a lot of books written by islamic scholars, they are available in a variety of languages....they are usually free for download.
at the end, may allah make your journey to islam very easy, inchae allah and let you die as muslim, ameen.
wa salam alikoum
