Inshallah all everone one TTI is well. May Allah bless this site and everyone on it. Unfortunately there is all sorts of concerns within the Ummah today, and this is beacuse if we go bk to what our beloved prophet {swt}said, 'He Who leavs the quran and sunnah, will be doomed', unfortunately thats is what is happenin now, that is why we have many problems.

Brothers arent following the sunnah, followin the example set by our beloved prohet {swt}, we are not going down the pray Salah at the masjid with the jamat, we aren't praying 5 times a day (it used to be 55, but thanks to our beloved prophet its 5) Our beloved prophet{swt} said, 'if people knew the amount of blessing there is on the 1st row of jamat, people would compete for them' alhamdulillah brothers should try get down the mosque and be in the 1st row. also brothers should be following the sunnah, we should have a fist length beard etc. but unfortunatlely rather than wantin to follow the example set by our prophet, we are wanting to intergrate into the duniya because we dont want to be looked at differently. Astagfirullah, brothers should be 'lowerin thier gaze',

But what do we see.................. Sisters, the wifes of our beloved prohet are the best example for you, try and read up on thier lives and implemeant them into yours, read the surahs regarding women issues in the quran and take heed on them. unfortunately, forgive me if im wrong, but sisters are being attacked about the veils, becoz not many wear them for right purposes, sum that do wear them, wear them becoz thier parents have made to, so they doin it in that fear, not fear of Allah. i think ther will come a tym soon when bros with beards, who well hav already been discrimanted, but will com a tym where they will want impose something on beards, why? becoz we will have left this sunnah of our beloved prophet .

Brothers and Sisters, just think why are we havin sooo many family problems, marriage problems, arguments, its because we are leavin our Deen. im just gona leave everyone to dwell and SERIOUSLY THINK over this question: "Say one day your sat at home on your comfy sofa, and theres a knock on the door, you go to open the door and..... it our Beloved Prophet , who spent his life sayin 'Ummahti, Ummahti'. WHAT WOULD YOU DO?" Would a Brother grow a fist length beard, throw the t.v out his house, say Aslaam Alikum Wa Rahmatullah, instead of 'Yo'........ Would a Sister put on her hijab and dress the way she should be within islam...... What Would You Do?*Personally, i'd burst into tears,

A) how has a sinful person like me had the blessings of the beloved prophet coming to my house .

B) this is the prophet who suffered time and time again for us sinful people, and since we are still part of his ummah, he will still interceed for us on qayamt. Inshallah, people will reply their views and what they would do, becuase this a question that is very pondering... must off all, lets not just reply but serioulsy think and change our life, as time is passing us very quickly.. Jazakallah.

May Allah forgive this Ummah for its ignorance, and give us Steadfastness, and the ability to follow the Sunnah. O Allah, You are the Turner of Hearts, Turn Our Hearts on to the Straight Path. Ameen

Make Dua For me.
Take Care

this reminded me of some thing my father was telling my brothers,

few years a group of Muslims from the UK went to AlQuds, reaching there they commenced talking to the israeeli soldiers, the conversation went something like this

muslims:why are you people doing this to the Muslims(some thing like that),

israeeli: when we saw the Muslims shaving their beards and not going for the Fajar salaat, we recognized they were weak, if we get them now we've got them, once they start len'thening their beards and going to the Masjid for Fajar Salaat we know we will be overpowered, so we r doing what we can now...

...and they talked some more but that part was glued in my mind
it is some thing to learn a lesson from,

Beard!

Asslamo Allaikum Brother,

That's not good brother. Beard is the established Sunnah of Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) & many of us like you live in Non-Muslim countries and go out to work, study etc. everyday amongst Non-Muslims.

Please follow the Sunnah & don't worry about people...They have to die, to their grave and answer to Allah (SWT) & you have to do the same...

Don't let their stupidity destory your Akhira!

I will go straight to the point...

In the Madhab of Imam Shaf'ae (RA) shaving the Beard is HARAM!

See Kitaabul-Umm of Imam Shaf'ae or ask any Shaf'ae scholar that you are in touch with.

For everyone else; Shaving the BEARD is Haram according to consensus of opinion of Islamic scholars.

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate

The Position of the Shafi`i School

The Shafi`is have differed among themselves about the ruling of shaving the beard. Some scholars such as the Shaykhs Ibn al-Rif`ah, Halimi, and Adhra`i have held shaving the beard to be unlawful,

Others, such as the Imams Ghazali, Nawawi, and Rafi`i have held it to be offensive.

The two foremost figures in the late Shafi`i school, Shaykh Ibn Hajar al-Haytami and Shaykh Muhammad al-Ramli--along with Shaykh al-Islam Zakariyya al-Ansari--have confirmed the latter position (Sayyid al-Bakri, I`anat al-Talibin, 2.340). This latter position is, in fact, the official position of the Shafi`i school.

The School and the Imam

One of the arguments for the unlawfulness of shaving the beard is that Imam Shafi`i himself said in al-Umm that it is unlawful. Shaykh Ibn Hajar explains that this is insufficient proof to establish this position as the official position of the Shafi`i school, saying,

"The scholars of exacting verification have reached consensus that the official position of the Shafi`i school (al-mufta bihi) is what [h: Nawawi and Rafi`i] have mentioned, followed by what Nawawi [h: alone] has mentioned. They have also reached consensus that if someone objects to [h: Nawawi and Rafi`i] by citing an explicit statement from al-Umm, or by claiming that the majority [h: of Shafi`i's] have held a contrary position, or the like, then this does not change the official position of the Shafi`i school [h: that Nawawi and Rafi`i have agreed on]. This is because [h: Nawawi and Rafi`i] have more knowledge of what Imam Shafi`i has said, and of what the early Shafi`is have said than the one who objects to them. They therefore only went against [h: the text of Imam Shafi`i or the positions of the early Shafi`is] because of a reason that is known by those who know it and not known by those who are ignorant of it." (Muhammad b. Sulayman al-Kurdi, al-Fawa'id al-Madaniyya, p. 19)

Imam Shafi`i is known to have held multiple positions (at different times) on the same issue, and the early scholars of the Shafi`i school differed greatly among themselves. Determining the official position of the school is not as easy as citing a single reference; rather, one needs to have complete knowledge and mastery of all of the statements and positions of the Imam and the early scholars. Imam Nawawi and Imam Rafi`i both had this knowledge; most of those who objected to them did not.

Scholars who came after Nawawi and Rafi`i held that the only way to understand the works of the Shafi`is who came before these two scholars (including the words of Imam Shafi`i himself) is through the books of these two scholars themselves, who had read and understood what all the Shafi`is before them had said, and then worked with this knowledge to determine the official position of the school. If we find a solitary quote from one of Imam Shafi`i's books that goes against what Nawawi and Rafi`i said, then, in all likelihood, they were aware of the quote and held a contrary position because of other quotes and other positions that have not reached us.

This is why when Shaykh Ibn Hajar discusses the positions of those who held shaving the beard to be unlawful, he doesn't even deem it necessary to verify what al-Umm says. Rather, he simply says that the alleged quote from al-Umm should either be interpreted in other than its immediately obvious sense, or, if that's not possible, then it is simply contrary to the official position of the Shafi`i school (Ibn Hajar al-Haytami, Tuhfat al-Muhtaj, 9.376). The position of the school, in other words, remains what Imam Nawawi and Imam Rafi`i have determined.

Shaykh Nuh Keller has written a short, yet beautiful and inspiring biography of Imam Shafi`i (Allah have mercy on him) at the end of The Reliance of the Traveller. He says of the great Imam,

"The author of some 113 works, it was nonetheless Shafi`i's hope that "people would learn this knowledge without ascribing a single letter of it to me," and as Zakariyya Ansari remarked, "Allah granted his wish, for one seldom hears of any position of his, save that it is ascribed to others of his school with the words, 'Rafi`i, or Nawawi, or Zarkashi says ...' and the like."" (Reliance of the Traveller, x324)

May Allah be pleased with Imam Shafi`i and benefit us because of him. Ameen.

And Allah knows best.

Hamza.

Position of Beard in the Shaf'ae Madhab!

Asslamo Allaikum Akhi,

Jazakullah Khairun for sharing the position of Imam Nawawi (RA) & later scholars in the Shaf'ae Maddhab on the beard.

Since I am NOT a Shaf'ae I was only aware of the position of Imam Shaf'ae (RA) which is in line with the majority of scholars i.e. shaving the beard being HARAM.

Even if you are take the later position of Shaf'ae Madhab, what do you think is the position of someone who insists on a Makruh (disliked, offense) act consistently? Please look this up and inform us.

P.S: I beleive that you will find the position of Shaf'ae Madhab on this issue in Reliance of the Traveller...

P.P.S: It doesn't matter how cut it, dice it, slice it...You can't win on this one Akhi...So grow a Beard!

Me!!!

Asslamo Allaikum,

Boy! I can NEVER even think of challenging Imam Nawawi (RA)...

I would be happy if I am even associated with him in some small way like even having the capability to read his books properly...

One of the greatest Muhaditheen and an Imam of Shaf'ae Madhab & me!!! I am happy that you have even mentioned my name (even not real) in the same sentence. That is real and genuine honour for me!

After reading some of the comments here, Inshallah i will grow a beard. Is there anything wrong with shaving your moustache?

Also to the first comment, that is true, i go to college it you just look around you and you know that there is a people not following the Sunnah, but im sure that there is more people following the Sunnah. Inshallah i will increase my knowledge by visiting this site, and become a better muslim. I personally think it could be due to peer pressure, like people smoking, pressurising someone into do things they are not comfortable with.
