1. also, Allah says to lower gaze, how it will be easy to lower gaze with pics in their profiles.

2. u can try to tell them that their pics can create desires in the opposite sex those who look.

3. if someones starts liking him/her, he/she can be questioned on Day of Judgment for putting their pics.

4. will he/she like tht his/her spouse/spouse-to-be likes someone else?

and it is Allah indeed Who opens the breasts towards understanding of Islam and taqwa.

Hypocrites on FB

It's haraam to wear make up when non-mahrams seeing.
Why are they showing their pictures? Besides pictures of human beings and animals are haraam.

^ Oi oi oi don't give out a flattening statements like that. And don't use the word hypocrite loosely, there wasn't a single companion who thought he wasn't a hypocrite. Dont think your safe.

Where is your evidence that pictures are Haram?

Didn't the hypocrites of yesterday hide their nifâq, while today they reveal their nifâq? I was speaking generally rather than specifically.

I didn't say pictures are haraam. I said pics of souls are haraam like animals and human beings. The worse form of animal is the bird. The scholars always say human beings, animals and birds eventhough the bird is an animal. Refer to the best fatwa site on the world for daleel.

Pictures are allowed.

Question: What is the ruling on filming and videotaping, and in which cases is it permissible?

Answered by: Shaykh Muhammad al-Maliki

With regard to filming, videotaping and photography, let us return to the original form which is photography; the `Ulamaa' (Scholars) have differed in this matter. The reason they hold different opinions is based on the hadeeth where the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: "The curse of Allaah is upon the musawwireen."[1] The word musawwireen (مصورين) in Arabic originally meant those who paint pictures of living beings like mankind or animals. This was the original (meaning of the word) soorah (صورة). However, the Arabs of today, when they saw the camera and how it projects pictures and photographs, they named the photograph "soorah" and the photographer "musawwir"; to my understanding this is wrong. They even call the photocopy machine "soorah", whereas it is not (really) "soorah" as it copies, and in Arabic the (word) copy is nuskhah (نسخة). The problem stemmed from that aspect and that is why some of the `Ulamaa' say that photographs are haraam and the one who takes photographs is cursed as in the hadeeth.

Some other `Ulamaa' like Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen رحمه الله who looked very deeply into the issue, determined that this is not the "soorah" that is mentioned in the hadeeth. It only holds the shape of the figure like a mirror does, so they say this not haraam (forbidden). The advice is to leave it if it is not needed; but yes, they say that it is not the "soorah" referred to in the hadeeth.

Some other `Ulamaa' also named the one who videotapes as "musawwir" and they say that this is even worse because you can see men and animals walking etc. In my view, this is not the proper opinion from amongst the opinions of the Scholars. The proper opinion is that this is not a "soorah" and the one who videotapes or films is not a "musawwir" even if the Arabs of today call them "musawwir". Allaah knows best if the Arabs at the time of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم were alive today if they would not call it "musawwir". This is because the Arabic language is very specific - more specific than the English language; and in English we have the terms "painter", "photographer", and "one who videotapes". In English there are different names for them but Arabic is more specific than any other language. As the early Arabs (at the time of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم) did not see (these instruments - camera, videotape etc.) they did not give them names. However, the Arabs of today, when they saw them, they named them "soorah" and "musawwir", and then they implemented the ruling based on the hadeeth to this, saying that "the curse is upon the one who is doing so and so"; to me, that is wrong and Allaah knows best.

Basically the wisdom of why the pictures are haraam is because the fear of making shirk. Did your fatwa say Ibn Uthaymeen said it's halaal to take pictures? Video is allowed but I am talking about pictures.

But the matter needs further discussion if one wants to make these kind of permissible pictures. For they are subject to five rulings which depend on the intention. If the intention is something forbidden, then it is haraam. If he intends something waajib (obligatory), then it is waajib. Sometimes pictures may be essential, especially moving pictures. For example, if we see someone in the act of committing a crime against a person’s rights, such as an attempt to kill and so on, and we cannot prove it in any way but by taking pictures, then in this case taking pictures becomes waajib, especially in cases where pictures may decide the case. The means are subject to the rulings on the ends. If we make these pictures in order to prove the identity of a person for fear that someone else may be accused of the crime, this is also acceptable, indeed it is essential.

But if we take these pictures just to enjoy looking at them, this is undoubtedly haraam... And Allaah knows best.” (See Al-Sharh al-Mumti’, 2/197-199)

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said, when he was asked about pictures: making pictures for this purpose is haraam and is not permitted. That is because making pictures for memories is haraam, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “The angels do not enter any house in which there is an image,” (narrated by al-Bukhaari, Bid’ al-Khalq, 2986), and whatever the angels do not enter had no goodness in it.

Assalaamu 'alaykum!
Assalaamu 'alaykum,

DIFFERENCE OF OPINION!

Shaykh Bin baaz says pics are halal, and videos are haraam.

Shaykh Ibn uthaymen says pics are halaal and also videos are halaal.

Shaykh Al-Albaani says pics are haraam and also videos are haraam.

Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan says both are haraam unless it is for the benefit of the ummah (i.e, teaching purposes).

*smile* <-- I rather show this when someone wants to see my face! lol
