Using "PBUH"

Asalaamu alaikum -

I'm under the impression that using the term "peace be upon him" (abbreviated to "pbuh") is used only for Prophets. We have various other terms of respect we use but this particular one is ONLY for Prophets.

Is this correct?

Largely correct, though other than prophets have been revered with the same clause, e.g., Mary and archangel Gabriel, peace be upon them.

I ask this because I was on a website where many of the people are followers of Warith Deen Muhammad & apparently they are now starting to put "pbuh" after his name. I wasn't sure how to feel about it :p

And also, special case for Saidina A'li, after his name we usually say KaramuAllah hu wajhah. I once read that it is because he was one of the teens during the time of Prophet Muhammad :saw2: who embraced Islam and that he never worship the idolaters.

Wallahu a'lam.

That would be inappropriate, not because the man didn't deserve it, but because tradition has been that عليه السلام ("peace be upon him") was reserved for prophets, رضي الله عنه ("may God have been pleased with him") was reserved for the Sahaaba and the following generation and رحمه الله ("may God have mercy on him") is for all others who are no longer with us. I like that.

I agree with this .. (Peace Be Upon Him) was only for Prophets...
