Today, we see internationally, a blind imitation of women whether old, middle-aged, young and even small children walking step-by-step in the footsteps of “Western style fashion”. We women are taught through the media that in order to be valued, worthy, “with it” and “cool” we must wear the latest fashion styles. We experience “peer pressure” to wear the latest “hot labels” to the latest make-up trends, the latest hair styles and the latest jewelry. The latest fashion regarding eyebrows is that they must be thin. For conscientious, young Muslim girls to older women who know that plucking the eyebrows is forbidden by Allah, they merely dye their eyebrows blond or white and use an eyebrow pencil to draw a “fake” thin eyebrow…..for what and for whom???? How can a conscientious, intelligent human being become enslaved to bow down to the “fashion gods” and blindly dress to whatever the fashion designers dictate to us?
In al-Saheeh, it was reported that Ibn Mas’ood (May Allah be pleased with him) said, “Allah has cursed the women who do tattoos and those who have it done, the women who pluck eyebrows and those who have this done and the women who file their teeth and change the creation of Allah” Then he said, “Should I not curse those whom the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) cursed, when it says in the Qur’an, “And whatsoever the Messenger gives you, take it and whatever he forbids you, abstain (from it). (Koran 59:7)
The style of fashion today is the style of fashion that women wore 30+ years ago in the West.
Who wore this style of fashion which the whole world imitates as being so sheik, so cool, so “with it”?
The women of the street: the women who sell their bodies; the women who have no self-respect, honor or dignity; the women who are desperate to make money in an immoral way. These women break up marriages, destroy children and families, destroy the society and thus the country is destroyed.
The way the woman dresses in the community will strengthen the morality of their country or destroy it. Women who are elderly to young girls are imitating the fashion of “prostitutes” and walk proudly that every shape and curve of their bodies are known by all who gaze upon them. Many Muslim women strut around in these tight shaped pants and shirts thinking about nothing except being stylish, sheik and fashionable, making them feel superior to others from the fact that they are wearing the latest fashion. These women have a powerful impact and responsibility by what they choose to wear. By choosing to dress in clothes that reveal the complete outline of the body as if one is naked, one is choosing to be cursed.
The Prophet (pbuh) said, “There shall be, in the latter part of my nation, women who are dressed but (in fact) naked, on their heads are humps like those of Bukht (one kind of camel), curse them for they are surely cursed.” Al-Tabarani and Al-Albani
We have fallen into the trap of our clear enemy. Allah Most High tells us in the Qur’an in Surah al-Imran, ayah 43, “…and Satan made attractive to them that which they were doing.”
Satan makes whatever we do appear attractive to us.
A few days ago I was very surprised to see little girls dressed in pants and a particular little girl, maybe 4 years old wearing a flashy gold mini-skirt. I remember when we found the most beautiful dresses for our three girls around 8 years ago. The next year we went to the same store and found only pants. Who is imposing on us the way we should dress our children? Where did all the beautiful dresses go that made girls look like princesses??? Look around and see for yourself. Almost all young girls are wearing pants. How did this come to be???????
What is the history of women wearing pants?
There is a record of 4th Century Persian women wearing pants but that trend was never passed on to the Western World at that time. At the end of the Victorian period, women began wearing a knee length full skirt worn with full cut pants underneath called “bloomers” taken from the last name of a feminist advocate named Amelia Jenks Bloomer,
In the 1880’s and 1890’s a bicycle outfit was created consisting of knee length knickerbockers or knickers which were worn with a split wide skirt and stockings. The “World of Fashion” tagged this outfit as un-ladylike and it did not become popular.
In World War I (1914-1919) women had to go to work in factories from the absence of men. They pulled back their hair and wore loose pants. Hollywood put their stamp of approval on pants when an actress named Marlene Dietrich wore a pair in a movie.
In 1920, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America was passed, giving women the right to vote. (I spoke with a woman fencing coach who said that before women were allowed to vote women fencers all wore skirts. After the women were given the right to vote they began to wear pants.) The Roaring Twenties were the period when we start to see a dramatic departure from the classic (modest) style of dressing. When World War II (1939-1945) began a woman named Rosie the Riveter was seen on posters all over the country wearing overalls. Another popular poster was her wearing a bandana and flexing her arm muscle (like a man) with the caption: “We can do it! She was a media propaganda creation devised to encourage women to fill in for men while they were fighting World War II. She represented the six million women who worked in manufacturing plants.
In 1961, a movie called, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” was released and the world began to imitate the star of the film (Audrey Hepburn) who wore black pants. Later, other movies stars were wearing pants which became popular in the 70’s. (taken from an article entitled: “The History of Pants and Women Wearing Them” by Carol Parris Krauss on www.associatedcontent.com, including comments by readers)
Abu Hurairah said that, the Prophet (pbuh) cursed the man who wears women’s clothes and the woman who wears men’s clothes.
Ibn Umar said that he heard the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) say, “He is not of us who imitates women nor is she of us who imitates men.” (Al-Hakim)
Abdullah Ibn Umar reported that the Prophet (pbuh) said, “Three people will not enter paradise, and Allah will not look at them on the Day of Judgment: the one who is disobedient to his parents, the woman who imitates men and the man who encourages women to engage in immoral acts.”
Who is it that controls what we buy and wear?
Who spends millions of dollars to market a specific brand of clothing?
How did pants become so widespread and popular?
Who is responsible for the fashion trends and styles?
Who dictates to us through films, T.V. shows and commercials, magazines and newspapers what we are supposed to wear???
Who owns these different media outlets?
Do Muslims own the fashion houses that dictate the latest fashion?
Do Jews, Christians and other religions own these fashion houses?
Are Muslims allowed to wear the same clothing as the disbelievers?
Are Muslims allowed to imitate and follow the Jews, the Christians, and other religions?
When we watch movies about the people at the time of the Bible what do they wear?
The women wear long, loose, thick dresses with their hair covered just like the Muslim women are guided to dress today.
Who am I? Am I an honored, respectable human being or a degraded, loose, immoral person? I tell everyone around me who I am by what I wear, by who I imitate. I have a choice, to dress morally or immorally.
The Prophet (pbuh) said, “All my followers will enter Paradise except those who refuse.” They said, “O Allah’s Messenger! Who will refuse?” He said, “Whoever disobeys me is the one who refuses (to enter it).” (Saheeh Al-Bukhari)
Do I accept to enter eternal happiness in Paradise or do I reject eternal happiness and choose to follow Satan, the “exciting” world, the fashion gods and my own desires?
Who do I love, worship and obey?????????????????????????????
