If an item you bought costs $9.90, but to round it up you told others you bought it for 10 bucks.

I take ten dollars to the store with me to purchase something that is $9.90. I can't even buy bubble gum anymore. Used to be I could buy ten pieces of gum and blow the best bubbles.

No you are not lying. If you told me the item was $9.90 I would still take ten dollars.

I was having a conversation with a friend and he asked me the price so I said it was $10. That's when he said, 'no really, how much?' And I said $9+.

That got me to this question.

we can say something like 'around 10 bucks', 'little less than 10', '10c short of 10'... that way we can escape such confusions.
