Loan Sharking=Haram, understandable... but investing in stocks?

I can't find a thread here that says if investing in the stock market is haram. So I want to ask instead. Is it?

I understand why Islam is against loan sharking. You try to profit from a person who most probably is in dire need of the money (Why would he/ she subject himself/ herself to such condition). Or even interest...

But I can't understand how investing in the stock market is haram as a sister told me. She said it is because "I am not working for my money". That is, in a sense correct. I am not really working for my money, as in hard labor. But I am using my brain to predict trends. I am making my money work for me.

And, if I don't invest it in stocks, it would just be in the bank anyway. The bank would also probably loan it out...

Hello rayray...

This issues is a bit dense for the Muslim with general knowledge in Shari'a..luckily however..scholars have made their research on the topic and have come to verdicts regarding it...below are two links which may help you...

http://www.islamqa.com/en/ref/124311/stocks

http://www.islamqa.com/en/ref/69941/stocks

They're both a bit lengthy..but if you're interested in knowing the *correct* verdict..then I think they will worth the time..

Peace..
