HALAL CHOCOLATE GOES ON SALE

Supermarket chain Morrisons is to start selling halal chocolate bars in Leicester.


The chain will introduce the Ummah chocolate range because of growing demand from Muslim shoppers.

With about two million Muslims living in the UK, the £2billion Halal food market is a growth area for supermarkets.

Suzanne Laverack, world foods buyer at Morrisons, said: "We tailor our food and drink offering to meet the demands of different cultures and are thrilled to be selling the range of Ummah chocolates."

Khalid Sharif, managing director of Ummah Foods, said: "We look forward to carrying out some innovative marketing campaigns with Morrisons that support the product and make a difference in the community."

It's just a shame my nearest Morrisons is a considerable walk away.

With more people converting to islam, the halal sign.. is worth a lot of money...This might be the reason why some is willing to do anything to get the halal sign

Chockalates ??? Halaal & no halaal????

Thats great news to me , Though I been to many countries , and perhaps may have eaten a couple of chocklate bars but it never occured to me to check if they were halaal or not.
The other point is: Now I live in Qatar & here we have all sorts of chocklate's , manufactured in the Midle east and around the gulf countries and the European, American and the chinese , you just name the brand and its there! but there hasn't been a hue or cry about choclate being halaal or haraam.Ofcourse there are other things like meat and xyz's which has a lot of checks and mention on the product package as halaal etc etc.
So enlighten me: What is it that confirms it as haraam "Is It Gellatine" alone or some thing else?

Just stay off chocolates all together. It's garbage food if you ask me. would have been better if it had not been halaal. The muslims would have stayed off one vice at least.

I just wish that major grocers here would sell halal. Instead, I have to drive an hour to a Pakistani neighborhood deep in the deepest heart of Chicago to shop halal. :(

Lol. Salam. The nearest place to where I live that sells halal meat is an 8 hour drive away. In Brisbane. Once a month, some of the families here get together, and we all order our own meat supply for a month, and a truck to bring it over.

small heath is a totally muslim area, if i'm not wrong. have never lived in Birmingham, but have been to small heath once. i think morrisons and other large grocery chains should stock more halaal food, not just chocolates. i live in wales and it's a drag getting halaal meat. thankfully the local somerfields do halaal chicken at least. but there is not one, not even one halaal fast food shop here.

lol yeah, wales...its like in the sticks. I grew up in pembs and its like spot the freaky hijaabi everytime i go!! lol
Its not nice going veggie fisshy when i go to mum's.....we get by. You know what to do, drive to cardiff and stock ur car with looooots of goodies and then go home and fiiiil your freezer. Thats what i do when i go to mums for a lengthy spell so i dont get completely bored with fish fish and fish.

AND u cant even go to the local cippy coz the fry khinzir with the ame oil :(

Feccis F&C is the best but me no can eat :(:girl3: :girl3:

therefore you know the local chippy, if they have pork sausage, they prob cook it in the same oil, therefore pig fat melts and is part of the oil :(
