i have gone through the other meaning of the verse. but then why should we take one meaning and not the other. the narration you mentioned is from ibn abbas.

still confused, actually more confused. IMHO, husband should not discipline his wife, that's her mother's job. this should be clear cut but it doesn't look that way. even if you read 4:34 and 4:35 together im still not 100% convinced.
anyways ill never hit my wife (except in self defense if need arises
