Cell phones disturb!

Riyadh: This Ramadan, the use of mobile phones in the two Holy Mosques in Makkah and Madinah is emerging as a new phenomenon.

No sooner has the prayer session ended in the Grand Mosque, than worshippers start to talk on their cell phones, despite the fact that communication is often not clear because of the large crowds and pressure on the network.

The practice has been criticised by a number of religious leaders, who, besides the fact that it’s inappropriate in a place of worship, claim it’s a distraction from religious duties. They point out that there’s no need for it.

Gulf News observed a large number of pilgrims talking on mobiles while doing their tawaf (circumambulation) or sa’i (long walk between the mountains of Safa and Marwah).

The pilgrims take advantage of the time it takes to do sa’i to talk to their families and friends or send text messages. Some of them even discuss business projects while performing Umrah.

The use of mobile phones is particularly worrying when thousands of worshippers leave the mosque at the same time. Many insist on stopping to finish a chat while actually obstructing the flow of movement out of the Grand Mosque.

Another distracting aspect of the mobile use is the flashing light that occurs when people use it to take photos. Many pilgrims are keen to capture scenes from the mosque on camera. An observer, positioned on the third floor, said he counted 60 mobile camera flashes per minute.

Those who defend the use of the phones claim they’re needed to locate friends and family in the Grand Mosque. They also say they have a God-given right to capture their historic moments in the sacred place of worship.

i think they should be allowed to use there mobile phones but not for useless talk. when i went to makkah last year i had to use my mobile phone to find my mum because she prays in the womens area (segregated). i didn't want to go over to the womens area and look for her i would just tell her to meet me.
however i do not think you should use your phone during tawaaf unless it is an emergency. it is distracting.
may allah forgive forgive us.

Yes U correct! People should think not to waste their time in useless talk. We need a cell when we are in makkah!

I feel the mobile phones ARE important, but not during important Islamic rituals. Whatever it is, should wait until it is finished of go elsewhere as not to disturb anyone else. The picture taking should be allowed, as you might not be back to capture the moments and Allah knows best.:blackhijab:

Me and my parents were appalled by the number of people busy taking the perfect photos and perfect videos while we were in Makkah. These people have spend so much money and taken time off to travel to such a Holy place, Why not raise your hands in dua or do some other form of ibadah ?

It looked like a part tourist spot for some of the people Astagfirullah.. May Allah azz zawajal give them hidayah.Ameen

Alhamdulillah!
You are most welcome dear sister & brothers

Concerning the phone matter,
There is a rulling in mosque that one shouldn't make much noise and to lower down voice.Even while reading the holy qur'an!
The respective mosque is for doing Ibadah and making so much noises will cause some distracting and disturbance to one focus while performing prayer. And seriously this is a cause of sin(to the noise polluting)
