im 18, male, reverted 2 months ago, living in Australia, completing my final year of school, my parents dont know ive reverted.

my imam has been low lately because ive had a lot of stresses, ive been sick, and i think ive been tested a lot lately as well ! but after asking many people ive come to the conclusion that everyone has periods of low imam and that ive just got to keep doing my religious duties and it will work itself out.

my biggest problem lately however is boredem! i find living in a western country where your surrounded by music, *!*!*!*!ography, lots of haram resturants, etc etc very hard! but its even harder to adjust yourself to this new islamic lifestyle when i used to listen to music, and used to watch *!*!*!*!ography, never used to pray, never used to fast, etc etc. plus sometimes i feel like getting up to pray, and fasting is a struggle sometimes. i used to enjoy reading quran and hadith, but latley i just havent felt the same excitement to go and read quran and hadith plus ive found that you cant just read quran and hadith all the time becuase eventually you get bored. i also enjoy hanging out with my muslim friends but you cant hang out with them 24/7.

so my questions are;

1. how does a muslim entertain him/herself when your at home or out etc?
2. even though i feel bad for sometimes looking at a women in a bad way do you think that allah (SWT) will have more mercy on me because of the society i live in?
3. do you think that watching movies, playing games, that dont have *!*!*!*!ography in them but may have violence and music in the background are haram?
4. (question for reverts out there) do you/did you feel really weird/frightened/out of place at the musala/masjid? even when i go with friends i feel really weird and also i dont like the attention i get from being a revert!
5. does anyone have any comments/suggestions/experiences that could be of help to me?

thank you all in advance!
may allah (SWT) guide us all on the straight path... ameen

salaam

I know what you mean and i'm sure a lot of people on this site who live in western countries also know what you are going through. It is true that you cant read Quran or Hadith 24/7 however there are things you can do.

Boredom is very bad as i also suffer from it time to time but we get bored because we do not keep ourselves occupied, if we keep ourselves occupied it should reduce.

1
- Spend more time with your family, helping them out if they need help.
- I'm not sure how old you are but doing some voluntary work or getting a job may also help.
- helping out in dawha but you have to have good knowlegde.
- Remembering Allah (Zikhar)
- doing sunnah and nafl prayers if you dont do them.

2

Try to lower you gaze

movies and games or ok as long as they dont have haram things in them

Dont worry just be patient, lower your gaze and try to keep occupied in good deeds.

Also check the articles on this thread they should help you

ps - Its Iman by the way not Imam.

Peace.

May Allah bless you and make your test easier.

1. how does a muslim entertain him/herself when your at home or out etc?

go to the park, reading, working out, hobby some kind of sports, volunteer work, eating!!!! cooking!!! <--- you can become a master of this, school takes up a lot of time if you;re going

2. even though i feel bad for sometimes looking at a women in a bad way do you think that allah (SWT) will have more mercy on me because of the society i live in? inshallah allah does have mercy on us because there are so many ways devil tries to get you but just avoid stuff like different events especially all that non-muslim teen stuff, parties or tv shows were women will be dress skimpy, if that is a prob for u

3. there;s a lot of games you can play w/o violence and stuff try freearcade.com and just turn the sound off if you think the music is haram ( even though its just instrumental music) online chest, checkers classical games are fun as well

4. (q i went to mosque 1x but it was weird because i didnt know anyone but the friend i went with

Salam in regards to non-violent play a called braids...apparently it is getting amazing reviews.

But you must find something to do and anytime you are bored you are at the mercy of the Shaytan and this is why you find yourself watching *!*!*!*!ography as a means of excape. I would suggest you take up an hobby and try to make changes in your life, do not just read the quran but you must begin to see it as an alive guidiance from Allah and must be live it through abiding by its prohibitons. The quran is an reminder, not just something to make you feel spirtual.

Selaam Alaykum Brother,

I am a revert female muslim in the U.S. I understand how you feel. I grew up thinking the things I use to do before were "normal," now being a muslim I realize how a lot of it is haram. Fasting helps to keep yourself from doing haram things. Building a good relationship with fellow brothers will also help because they are dealing with the same things you are. Also, like another person mentioned helping out your family and spending time with them. I have talked to a few muslims about this problem they said that this is our test as revert muslims. We are changing a lot of things for the sake of pleasing Allah and strengthening our faith. I know it is hard sometimes. I also understand how you feel about the masjid. Here I only know 3 reverts and they go to the masjid sometimes, so when I go I am the only revert. It is sad but I do feel set apart because the masjid I go to has a lot of people from pakistan and the muslim women don't really talk to me and I am by myself. Inshallah everything will be better. Everyday I just pray and try to stay focus on how to be a better muslim. Allah has blessed us for opeing the door so we can be muslims and know the truth. I will make Dua for you brother.

Brother Manbat,

Alhamdulillah, Allah swt has given you supreme blessing of Iman. May Allah SWT increase your iman. Verily, Allah guides those whom He wills.

May Allah bless you with calmness and tranquility. some role is your age and pcychology is playing here. Brother, I would say you that this is the time of tribulations. and we are watching signs of qiyamah , which prophet (saw )mentioned. As we do some halaal act and we earn thawaab as we do burden with sins over haraam acts.

Now forget your life in past and its traditions. The much you would remember them, you would run towards them. That life was on desires and this part is to be on Allah’s desires and will. I know it’s not to steadfast easily. If you would ask Allah swt, He will surely hear your plea.- InshaAllah.

But remember that they were the companions that on revelation declaring that alcohol is haraam, and one companion was sent in streets to declare forbiddence of alcohol, those who had sipped the alcohol and heard the announcement , at the same time did those spitted out and not thought to have that last sip ( Allahu akbar). Now haraam forever , The books tell there was a scene like rivers of alcohol in streets of makkah . That companions have their eye on akhirah . situations they too faced, but they accepted them happily. And struggled for Allah’s religion . may Allah be pleased with them.

Now you are pious and responsible muslim , with fear of Allah. think that Allah SWT is watching. It’s not secret. If you would ask from Allah swt , He will sure to give , as He is only worthy to give.

the difference between us and disbelievers is. we believe that Allah SWT will reward us in akhirah. so why we curtail that rewards doing something which Allah SWT not like. Jannah is for us – InshaAllah for pleasures. The pleasures are eternal as life there is eternal.

The life on the earth is like a blink of eye or one morning or evening . Let we think our past, its just like that. We realize these many years I lived here, and I know nothing of past. Start new page, delete that page.count what you have , forget what you did with true tears of repentance. Allah is oft merciful and forgiving.
