Disturbed at the moment

Salam alaikom

I just watched a Jordanian show on the satetlite that featured a blind man teaching the Quran to a young boy who was unable to recite a certain verse, all I know that he had a lisp and could not pronounce a verse that started with "Alem nasher". After the blind man noticed this , he pulled out a sword and beat the boy even as he was crying. I was asking myself how could they make a drama out of such a horrific thing, at the same time wanting to ask my mom if this was "harem". She said "no.". I feel very disturbed that one would be beaten for an incapability to recite a holy book and I'm having mixed feelings. I'm writing here for the re-assurance that beating a young boy for an incapability is NOT halal.

beating someone for not being able to recite is haram. i will post the fatwa soon but anyways this is a wrong action. you must teach a person by advicing and repeating for them again and again. but beating them will get you no where. maybe people think this is right out of ignorance and arrogance but i assure you it's wrong. completely wrong! and muslims need to stop this practice and claiming as part of islam!

Our Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. was the most gentleman in teaching his companions/family the knowledge of AlQur'an.
We shd follow his sunnah.

Thank you sister Palestine, do you by any chance have the fatwa you spoke of in arabic? I'd like to show it to my mom.

Thanks.

Salaam,

Brother Waseem, when someone says that beating is allowed in Islam (for children and wives) I simply ask them if Rasool ever did it? No? Then why should we do that? What does beating a student accomplish? I taught for three years and can tell you punishment is NOT an effective means of teaching. Instead, patience and encouragement are the most vital tools of teaching.

Aa’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, relates that the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said: “Verily the one who recites the Qur’an beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, he will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have TWICE that reward.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

So tell me, where does it say to beat the struggling student? It doesn't, it says the person who struggles in spite of difficulty will get twice the reward. This "teacher" should be fired.

As-salaamu `alaykum.

Was it a show meaning a drama so they were actors? Or was it a real life act? Subhaan Allaah, everything has it's limits! Based on the hadeeth where the Prophet, sal-Allaahu `alayhi wasallam, told us to urge our children to pray aged 7 and to hit them if they do not at 10, some scholars have concluded that you are NOT allowed to hit them for anything other than this (and of course it shouldnt be abuse), and only at the age of 10 onwards. The wisdom behind this is that there is little need in hitting a young child, it's not very beneficial and at the same time, nothing is more important then salaah, then how can you hit them for something less than that. Allaah knows best! Anyway, it should be remembered that the best of guidance is the guidance of the Messenger, sall-Allaahu `alayhi wasallam. He never hit anyone.

Lastly, I somehow think that this thread could harm the da`wah...

Salam,
These are middle age methods.
No one could convince me that this is the right method.
Being a teacher myself I really know what I'm talking about

alhamdulillah, Yes, this is not right way to teach at all.. These dramas and movies are bad in reinforcing stereotypes etc - and do things not from Islam

- The Hadith sister Sarah put is enough to show why what was depicted was wrong.

If you beleive so, you should delete it. I've gotten my answer.

Salam.

InshaAllah, dont worry your question and the answers here will help others who might search..

salaam,
The best way to teach someone anything is with love!haven t you noticed that sometimes a student can hate a certain field like math or phisics but then he starts getting intrestred in it just because he happens to love and respect his teacher? This happens a lot of times. The prophet salla llahu wassalaam loved the sahaba very much and he used to tell them that as well.At times when he corrected someone from his companions he used to say wallahi uhibuka fi llah,(by god i love you for the sake of allah)an then he would point out the mistake ,without shaming them or making them feel disconfort. This is huge salla llahu aleihi wassalaam he did not have such complexes like a lot of us do nowadays. It is through love and beauty that one teaches and through love that the other comprehends. The quraan is clear about that as well.May allah swt help us to become more loving and have more rahma in our hearts.Am convinced that the more an individual is strict with himself the more he is forgiving with others, the opposite is also valid.Just look at how much the prophet salla llahu alkeihi wassalaam used to pray without imposing it on the sahaba...etc
