One thing I dont understand at ALL

As salamo alaikome brothers and sisters.........

I have been having so many personal problems this past month just towards the end of Ramadan and continuing still. It has made me reflect on the possible reasons behind it. I wondered if I could be doing something wrong and bringing on the misery myself.

I was thinking about Zakat. I really dont understand alot about it. I went to various websites trying to gain some knowledge about it since I literally know nothing. In one website they had zakat calculation tables and so I filled it out and it said I am not required to pay due to my income being less than what is needed to support me as it is. I think it was suggesting that maybe I am one of the people in NEED of zakat but I dont know <hahahaha>

Anyway I was reading on another website and I was getting emails towards the end of Ramadan advising time was running out to pay a special zakat for Ramadan. I didnt understand NONE of it and I dont have any way to pay anything online so I did nothing. I was thinking yesterday maybe this is the cause of all my problems?? I wonder if Allah is punishing me for not paying this special zakat for Ramadan so he took away both of my jobs and now I have no income at all???????

Really I am soooooo confused. One website telling me one thing and another website telling me the opposite..........maybe I messed something up.

Asalaamu Alaikum wr wb, we have to understand that if tests fall upon us then it does'nt mean that were doing something wrong or it is because of something we did. It may be yes but it may not be, there is no point assuming because we will never know until we are told about our life in the hereafter. But the point is that if Allah tests us in one way or another then we should try and bare with it with patience. He is testing us to see how we will react, will go go further away from him or will we get closer to him. Allah may test us in many ways but he usually tests those who he wants closest to him and if one bares with ANY test with patience and full hope, reliance and trust in Allah then surely the reward is Jannah. So ask of Allah to help you be patient and know that Allah tests because he wants to see if you get closer to him!

Yes I do understand the reasons that Allah tests us. I was just confused about the Zakat and wanted more information and at the same time wondered if it could be the reason I am being tested with my sources of income because I didnt pay zakat. That was my question.

Jazakallah khairan for yours and everyone else who responded to this thread. May Allah reward you all in this life and in the hereafter. Ameen.

Walaikum salam warahmatullah

It might not have anything to do with Zakatul Fitr but the fact that you were selling alcohol in your other job like people tried to explain to you yesterday when you started this thread

http://www.turntoislam.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61367

Take time to read what people took their time to write to you and inshallah you will get comfort from that

As salamo alaikome

I did read all the responses from everyone in my other thread. I understand that the sale of alchohol is haram and forbidden. I also understand that I am a single mother with very little education who lives in an area that doesnt offer many job opportunities that I am qualified for. I am not trying to make excuses because obviously I am aware of the fact that most of these issues are my own fault and my own problem so I am not looking for sympathy. I am simply explaining the reason for my job "choice" ....... is that I have very little "choice" at this time. Possibly with Allah's help and guidance my situation can and will improve in the future. For now I am just grateful that I have a source of income so my child and I dont need to live in the street and eat from garbage cans. May Allah forgive me if I have said something wrong or offended anyone and I ask him to make the way easier for all his slaves who worship him alone. Ameen

Sister Isra,

To simply put it, if you have more than $3000 (Gold price is around $1000 per ounce) in your bank account for more than a year than "Nisaab" may apply to you, and you may have to pay Zakat which is 1/40th (i.e. 2.5%) of that amount. This is called Zakat-ul Maal, you can call it a mandetory charity which one has to pay as a Muslim. There is a also a Zakat-ul Fitr which comes to around $10 per person (for those who live in United States or Canada) and you also have to pay it if Nisaab applies to you.

These charity money must go to a poor person. The best person to receive this money is a poor relative of yours or poor person living in your neighbourhood. If you can't find anyone like that then you can use a charity organization for this purpose too. The best is that this charity is disbursed before the end of Ramadan. But Allah is kind and merciful.

REMEMBER: You ONLY have to pay this Zakat (charity) IF Nisaab applies to you.

Hopefully this helps.

there are some people that aren't obligated to pay zakat. they find this out through calculation. at one time when things were better for me financially i had to give several hundred dollars in zakat, but now i'm just above not being obligated to give zakat.

there is zakatul fitr, which is a zakat that is given before eid ul fitr that is for the poor and needy and usually, at least here in the US is no more than $15.
