Yeah these days the headlines are just blast, ripped, IED etc and only from Afghanistan, Pakistan & Iraq.

People are using bombs as crackers its sad to see every time someone detonates in a market place or public areas where civilians are murdered.

I stopped reading/watching the news when I got out of the Army. At first I was afraid I'd see people I knew on lists of the dead or places I'd visited (I went to kosovo). I never started with the news again.

Assalaam walaikum,

I watch alternative sites. I listen to podcasts. I read editorials. I write letters. I call my state and federal representatives. Not everything is a lie and not everyone is a liar. There are many people who are truthtellers. I seek them out.

hehehe, same here and I can tell you we're NOT abnormal mashaAllaah, wal-hamduliAllaah. its just that the news does not interest me.....I wonder why they never have "a good news"! subhanaAllaah, it's always about death, this bad thing and that bad thing....no wonder we have many depressed people. SubhanaAllaah, the news just makes everyone alot more depressed....its sad!
I am glad I dont watch it that much, alhamduliAllaah. Hopefully, you'll feel the same way, its not worth it (this is JUST my opinion) :)

i do watch a lot of current affairs. but there is a lot of yellow journalism around, and green and blue and maybe even green.

so what i tend to do is take the average and that can often clarify the whole picture. what we must realize is that new agencies are like any other business and want to maximize sales/revenues. the truth is hardly a priority.

the best bet is to listen to and read informed journos, who have been on the field independently. people like, fisk, hersh etc.

I keep up with the headlines. I usually watch cnn or msnbc (or even Fox if I want to feel *really* angry lol) at the gym, and I sometimes watch cnbc at work. I skim the newspaper headlines and I read magazines like the atlantic and Newsweek or The Economist sometimes. I used to keep up with it and read it a lot more but right now I don't spend much time on it. I still consider myself and up to date on most current issues, and I spend more time reading about things I find more interesting or important.

Ahhh....Good old AMW, funny Saturday nights could not have been more scarier. I even use to check my curtains before I watch that show. But seriously I still watch the news and even a few morning broadcasts mostly local though. But your right if I have to hear about another celebrity breakdown or child kidnapping I might just lose it.

jazaak Allah khair to all of you for these soothing words. :) so its not abnormal...good to know that.

after reading all this sad news, sometimes the pictures and stories replays in the mind during work, sleep, etc making more depressed. i wonder how journalists can take on those pictures from the scene.

may Allah protect all of us. verily, He is capable to do all the things.

barak Allah feekum.

This is normal!
Avoid too much bad news !Bad news is bad to health and influence one mood as you have mentioned 'the whole day could be spoiled.'

I usually begin my morning listening to the holy qur'an
for example you can visit:

http://www.listen2quran.com/default.aspx
or some zikirullah from c.d

then i will start off surfing the headline and explore in the world of News~bad :( and otherwise:)

Take Care!

Thank you,

~Wassalam :)

Used to be active here!
salaam...

may be this has got nothing to do with the brother's question.

but this is how the indian media read regarding the recent unrest in kashmir...

1st day - Indian Police force killed 4 civilians in 2 days. Civilians protest.(meaning muslims in kashmir)

2nd day - Police used force only to defend themselves. Indian Government (believe it or not one of the civilian who died is a nine year old brother.. )

3rd day - Police force defending Kashmir. 'Stone pelters' causing unrest in valley (the same civilians whose relatives are killed)

4rd day - Police is fighting *terrorists in the valley. some terrorist organization is behind the unrest. (but only you told me they are civilians three days before!!!!)

at the end of the fourth day not a single lay man in india would remember about the nine year old boy who lost his life.

btw.. did i mention about the special interview with the head of the police force about how they are "defending" the valley??? (ofcourse by killing our children and our *women)

*not making this up.. a 24 yr old sister is killed by the police..

may Allah save the valley.

so yeah! keep away from trusting such media brother.
