Tonight is the beginning of the first 10 blessed nights of Dhul Hijjah of which the fast of the 9 days are equal to a whole year and the worship of the nights is equal to the worship of Laylatul Qadr!

-Rasulullah (Sallahu Alihe Wassalam) said: “On no days is the worship of Allah desired more than in the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah. The fast of each of these days is equal to the fast of a whole year, and the ibaadat (worship) of each of these nights is equal to the ibaadat of laylatul qadr.” (Tirmizi and Ibn Maajah)

Ibn `Abbas (ra) reported that the Prophet (Sallahu Alihe Wassalam) said: "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days." The people asked, "Not even Jihad for the sake of Allah?" He said, "Not even Jihad for the sake of Allah, except in the case of a man who went out, giving himself and his wealth up for the cause (of Allah), and came back with nothing." (Reported by Al-Bukhari)

These hadith confirm that the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah possess tremendous blessings and excellence and we should all make the best of these blessed days that are left. These rewards should not be missed at any cost!

Scholars have stressed that these special and blessed days and nights of the first ten days in particular should be spent doing intensive worship and virtuous acts as well as contemplation.

Allaah swears an oath by them, and swearing an oath by something is indicative of its importance and great benefit. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): "By the dawn; by the 10 nights" [al-Fajr 89:1-2]. Agreed by Ibn Abbaas, Ibn al-Zubayr, Mujaahid and others of the earlier and later generations aswell as Ibn Kathir

On the day of judgement we will BEG for even one good deed so how can we miss this opportunity to gain IMMENSE rewards which are beyong comprehension?

So let us worship Allah as much as we can tonight and in the next 10 nights and fast the 9 days to gain rewards of fasting a whole year! For every second is precious and ANY second could be our very last!

If you want to make the best of these blessed 10 days then refer to this thread inshallah:

Assalaamu `alaykkum. JazakAllaahu khairaa for the reminder, but I would just like to point out that this narration is weak... “On no days is the worship of Allah desired more than in the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah. The fast of each of these days is equal to the fast of a whole year, and the ibaadat (worship) of each of these nights is equal to the ibaadat of laylatul qadr.”

In its chain are two narrators who are weak. 1) Nahhaas ibn Qahm. A large number of Hadeeth scholars weakened him, and from those who weakened him are Aboo Ja`far al `Uqaylee, Aboo Haatim ar-Raazee, Aboo Dawood, An-Nasaa'ee, Ibn Hajar al-`Asqalaani(as mentioned in his At-Taqreeb), Ad-Daraqutni, Adh-Dhahabi, Yahya ibn Ma`een and others

2) In its chain is Mas`ood ibn Waasil who is also weak as mentioned by Ibn al-Jawzi, Ad-Daraqutni, Sulaymaan ibn Daawood and others.

Wassalaamu `alaykkum

Asalaamu Alaikum, yes a few have said it is weak but the vast majority of scholars have accepted it and there is too much evidence for the support of this hadith than against.

Therefore all should make the best of these 10 nights and inshallah gain the reward of Laylatul Qadr everynight! Subhanallah!

Abu Hurairah relates that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, "There are no days more loved to Allah for you to worship Him therein than the ten days of Dhul Hijjah. Fasting any day during it is equivalent to fasting one year and to offer salatul tahajjud (late-night prayer) during one of its nights is like performing the late night prayer on the night of power. [i.e., Laylatul Qadr]." [This is related by at-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, and al-Baihaqi]

Wa `alaykkum salaam wa rahmatullaah. Could you kindly give me the statements of the "majority" of scholars who have accepted this narration please.

Yes it is true that good deeds are most beloved to Allaah during these 10 days, but we need to cite as evidence that which is authentic. I do not argue the fact that one should pray in the night or fast during these 10 days, but I do argue about a person gaining the reward of the fasting person getting the reward of fasting 1 year for fasting every single day, and the reward of Laylatul Qadr for praying in the night.

The authentic narrations from books of ahaadeeth are sufficient to be cited as evidence for virtues.

Asalaamu Alaikum, the virtue of these blessed nights have been mentioned in Surah Fajr and the hadith in question was related by at-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, and al-Baihaqi. Now this is sufficient enough for us as Muslims to act upon over a lay person like yourself who happens to follow another opinion by a few scholars regarding it. You are entitled to follow the opinion you follow and whether you accept the hadith or not that is upto you.

Wa `alaykkum salaam wa rahmatullaah, BarakAllaahu feek for your kind words. I never denied the fact that the first 10 days are virtuous. Perhaps you should re-read my post again. Just because the Hadeeth was related by Imaam At-Tirmidhi or Ibn Maajah doesn't mean it is authentic. Infact, At Tirmidhi rahimahullaah himself classified this hadeeth as "Ghareeb". You can check the references for yourself in Da`eef Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Da`eef Sunan Ibn Maajah by Ash-Shaykh Al Albaanee rahimahullaah.

Asalaamu Alaikum, If a hadith has some minor defects somewhere in the chain then some scholars reject it on that basis but other scholars may accept it. Some of these traditions have been held by some scholars of hadith as authentic and the defects in the chain of some others have been treated by them as minor technical defects which, according to the science of hadith, are curable by the variety of their ways of narration.

In conclusion you are entitled to your follow whichever stance you are inclined towards and others are also entitled to follow theirs.
