"LOL"- What does it mean???

I have found definition which sais that LOL is shorthand for Laughing out Loud or Laugh out Loud. LOL is the most commonly used chat expressions to illustrate you are laughing during a text conversation or that you found something funny.

The reason why I have asked the question, is that I have notice that in many cases "LOL" is not only used as a expression for "Laughin out LOUD. Sometimes it is also used to show that we agree with someones statemant.

For example if someone has said :" Yesterday we were playing basket-ball, and we have spent great time."

The other replys :" Yeah, LOL or LOOOOOOOOOOLZ", although it has not been said anything what would made someone to "laugh out loud" and to use "LOL" to express it.

Or for example :"Today is beautiful weather", "LOL, yeah".

Or : „Arent you Muhammed???“, LOL, yeah its me“

Maybe becouse "LOL" has been used so offten, it has became a habbit or favorite saying, as it is used when it should be used and when it should not be used.

And also did you maybe notice in your daily conversations with others, that they "pronaunce" "LOL" when there is something "funny" instead of showing it with expression on their face??? :)

For those who want to know more:

LOL is also less commonly short for Lots of Laughter and Laughing on Line and is also often substituted by LAL, LAWL (Laughing a Whole Lot), and LOLZ. Although already an abbreviation LOL is also sometimes abbreviated even more as LL.

Although not as common as the above definition of LOL, this term can also mean Lots of Love and may be something added at the end of an e-mail, letter, or other correspondence.

Short for Lots of Luck, LOL is another way of wishing someone good luck. This term could also be used sarcastically as telling someone they don't have a chance.

May Allah bless you all and make you happy always. :) Ameen summa ameen

anyways, I use most often 'ha ha ha', I use lol when I'm chatting to more than one!!

and also he he,

in my native language, lol means saliva, so whenever my frnd use/used to write lol a lot, I used to say, why r you wasting so many saliva upon my joke, isnt that funny or you just couldnt understnad?

ha ha ha

but, may Allah help us to be in right path, track.
sometimes we indulge ourself so deeply in other cultures.
I'm not directed it to anyone, but to me also, coz I'm also from the weak slaves. and I'm not replying in response of this thread but just as a reminder.

Rasul sallaAllahu alaihi wa sallam, didnt used to laugh loud, and he is the best example for us. and we are to follow him
may Allah azza wa jal help us to follow our prophet's way

JazakAllah khair for the different thread and topic

no, sister, there are two different parts
first part was just a funny story, saliva=mouth water
My Language is Bengali, so in bengali language 'lala' or 'lol' satnds for saliva...

and the second part is just a reminderit is an issue of culture, that I wanned to say, nothing conclusionary.

wa iyyaki fro your duas and wishing, may Allah grant you everything best in both of the world.

Islam is a way of life
When I say "lol" I really am laughing...If there is nothing funny then I wont say it.

"Lol" is a very over-used internet slang...Only use it to something you would laugh at in person xD

As someone once said, and I entirely agree with: "LOL has gone from meaning "Laugh Out Loud" to 'I have nothing else to say.'"

The utter saturation of its usage has completely usurped its actual meaning and left it, well for the most part - pointless. And unfortunately in my mind if a person uses it too much, or especially adds a 'z' to it, as in lolz it not only takes away meaning, but has me lose credibility for that person a bit too. I mean I can accept abbreviations with a meaning, but that's just a bit overdone.

I'm not going to get into a rant about this, since it's not really an important topic, but thought I'd drop in my two cents.

Assalamu alaikum,

I use it all the time .....and also I use it in real life. Like I'd be telling my friend "what you *lol-ing* about?? or be like "lol" that is true !! instead of ACTUALLY laughing out loud. When it comes to writing. I "lol" when I am actually SMILING like this :D
but most of the time, I really LOL on jokes which makes people wonder "who in their normal brain would laugh by staring at a computer??"

Brothe Saif, this was soo FUNNY!! lol specially the underlined part!!!

I actually did LOL @ that statement.

But in all reality sister Asja did a very critical analysis of a three letter word, maa shaa'Allaah.
