Asalaamu alaikum -

Ok this is going to sound like a silly question but we all know that Abu Hurairah r.a. is called that because he had a pet cat.

Now my question - does anyone know what he named is cat? I ask because inshallah I am getting a kitten tomorrow and am still trying to decide a name!

JazakAllah khair!

wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullahi wabarakatuh brother :)

Should I tell a secret to you? I love cats so much too. :D

Had a cat when I was back in my born place, but....... :(

Anyway, as per your question about the name of the cat Abu Huraira (radiyallahu 'anh) had, I have never seen any proof on any name so far, so I cannot answer it.

However, I am aware of the name of the Camel of Prophet (peace be upon him) when he entered Makkah, did Tawaf, and Demolished 360 Idols inside and out of Ka'ba. :) Its name is al-Qiswa. :)

You may say I am a kid still, but I do not mind saying here that I have named my Motorbike as Qiswa. But since it is very unique and nice, the thieves does their job. At first, they stole most of its covers and lights which I could not replace with exact type due to lack of availability. Now just before 3 days, again they have stolen its Muffler and connectives to the Engine. :( Since then, I am on my feet to go places. One supplier said that they will bring it on 1st June and I am just patiently waiting.

So brother, if you like Qiswa, I think it is a great name for your cat too, because of the speciality of that Camel of the Prophet (peace be upon him). :)

assalamu alaykum brother Danyal,

Dont know what Abu Hurayrah's cat's name was. sorry. :)

If you can find a stray cat and give it a home, it is better. - The trade in cats, dogs (buying/selling) is not allowed.

Abu’l-Zubayr said: “I asked Jaabir about the price of dogs and cats. He said, ‘The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade that.’” (Narrated by Muslim, 1569).

I also do not know the right answer dear sister, and I was trying to find the answer in biography of Abu Hurairah r.a. but I could not find the name of his cat on any place. Allahu Aleem, Allah knows the best.

Abu Hurairah literally means " Father of the kitten" when translating from Arabic language to English language and it is actualy a diminutive of word " cat".Allahu Aleem

It came to me on mind only this idea, but I know that it may be incorrect. :shymuslima1:

May Allah bless you

I am not buying this cat. A friend had a cat who ended up with kittens so she is giving them away.

A friend of mine in Saudi said the camel's name was Qaswa - with an "a" not an "i"?

When it is written in Arabic in the normal way without "Fath'ha", "Kasra", "Dhamma" or "Sukoon", the people can pronounce them in different ways. So I do not see any problem with adding an "a" also, even though its not the way I am being taught. My pronounciation comes with an "i" there. :) You may go on with any you like inshaAllah. :)

Just to add here, I have heard someone call it Quswa also, with a "Dhamma" OR "u" in that place.

Thank you my dear brother, jazakAllah khair. I have decided on a name that is a bit less twisty on the mouth, "Asha".

And I am sorry, I did not mean to appear insensitive to your loss...I am sorry to hear thieves are stripping your bike. May ALLAH protect you & keep you and your belongings safe.

Akhee please keep the cat I am sure you will enjoy keeping and playing with it. I have 8 cats in my house and every one loves them. They are the most clean and take care of their hygiene. They always surround my mom when she prays and sometimes sit in front of her during prayer.

Abu Qatadah relates that Allah’s Messenger said regarding the cat: “It is not impure. It is one of those creatures that live in our attendance.”

If you train them well then they are just awesome make sure they don't keep scratching on carpets or upholstery and make it a habit. You can name it anything you like. There is another hadeeth which says that The Prophet (Peace be upon him) named his donkey `Ufayr. [Sahih al-Bukhari (2856) and Sahih Muslim (30)]

Well I got her home after a lot of drama. She's small, just started eating solid foods last week. And she's terrified. She escaped from the box she was in while I was driving & she ended up inside the dashboard of my car. I had to have a brother come help me take the dashboard apart to get to her.

She's here in the house, afraid of everything but i did manage to get her to fall asleep while I was petting her. It will take some time for her to get accustomed to not being with her mom and litter mates, inshallah.

Yes they get scared when they travel in the car and try to go sit in places wherever they find. When they are new to places they act strange and quiet so they go hide somewhere it will take sometime before they open up and play around. Get some toys for it to play that will help to be happy and relaxed.
