I was shocked when I watched this movie...

Last night I took the time to have some "me" time and watch a movie that wasn't kid oriented. I watched a documentary ( yea I am a nerd like that) callled Once Upon a Time in Iran. It was about a bunch of Iranians who were making the pillgramage to Karbala, Iraq. I was stunned to see how they worshiped Iman Hussein, in many ways more the Allah (swt). This guy when he got there crawled across the shrine (400 meters) and chanted the name Hussien, Hussien all the way there. The birthday celebration for the Hidden Imam was also quite shocking. I do not know that much about the Shia but from what I saw just in that 1 hour 15 minute documentary scared me about them. I am not passing any judgements, that is Allah (swt) domain but wow, that was an eye opener.

You are absolutely right. In my country there is Bektashism exactly the saqme thing. Problem is that they do not worship him as God, but as God's ewliyah (the loved to God), and because he was murdered from muslims in Qarbala, his atributes are elevated beyond conception. If you watch the movie "The caravan of pride", you would sort of comprehend their elevation, in human point of view. He seems really very impressive personality in his faith. I was impressed. In daily life they elevate only Allah, but in religious ceremonies they truly seem to pay a lot more rituals to Husein, as if it helps them come closer to Allah (xh.sh). I am grown up in such a family, and in the begining has been normal thing. But. Alhamdulilah I read the Quran, and everything changed. I have been since taking time with my relatives (when I was back home), explaining the true creed, and it sort of changed a bit their perception, but is the niyah for this dunya that keeps them attached to old rituals, and yes you would have hard time to bring them completely to right track. Yet, though I have heard God from them just as natyrally as other muslims. May Allah help us help each-other in the true creed, and may Allah bring more communication between different groups of muslims, so inshaeAllah He will guide us all. Just one cent of mine in this.

Assalaam walaikum,

Often on this site we are criticized for being fundamentalist or radials or that other "S" word, Salafi.
Yet, when we start to seek knowledge it is an eye-opener. We are not passing judgement. We are simply holding on to the truth.

That was only some people who indeed exaggerated to express their love and that was wrong. But the others didn't do such thing, they go there to send dua to Imam Husein a.s and remembering the tragedy of Karbala as struggle opposing the tyrant. Don't generalize everything.:):)

Don't be shocked and it is not passing judgements, but these people are from the filthiest of Kuffaar!

If you watch more in detail about their practices you'd say a Jew is better than them they have gone to the extremes of accusing the sahaaba of being liars, fabricators and also labelling one of the wives of the Prophet Sallalaahu`alayhi wassalam of adultery. This is just a minute part of their filth

Wow, don't think I will be watching that movie. lol. I grew up neutral, not knowing about sunni and shia. I just consider myself a muslim without any other description or following one school of thought than the other. But as I grew up and gain some more knowledge, I definitely don't consider myself a shia.

"Recite, what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do." (29:45)

Sub'hanAllah! That's terrible. Truly, if someone loved the Prophet (PBUH) they'd love his friends and family. I think it's time for these people to return to the most fundamental statement of Islam: their shahada.

An eye opener for those who still advocate for them to be a "branch in islam"
Brother Abu Talib your compositions and posts are read with great interest especially by someone who is a die hard salafi alhamdolilla. When I first joined n the forum i remember reading one of your articles about the connection between moudodi and khumani. I am just back from visiting my brother n law in the US and feel the need to refer to that article. will it be possible for you to post the link of that and related articles (moudidi and his doctrin, his lack of reverence for the sahaba e karaam, his inspiration form khumani and albana etc.
Thanks

What about moudoudi? I read once that moudoudi asked khomeni that if he were to form a government, what system they will install? He replied islam but moudoudi was disappointed when he saw which version of islam khomeni was talking about.
