My question is that how is Dr. Zakir Naik? Are
his beliefs in accordance to those of the Ahl us
Sunnah wal Jama’ah? Are his views on Hadith
and Tafseer reliable or not? Can we listen
to his talks and practice upon them?

Assalaamu `alaika warahmatullaah brother.

Have you listened to any of his talks? Did you notice anything wrong with the things he says? Or is this just a general question and you're trying to tread carefully?

I'll admit I have not listened to much of his lectures/talks but I also haven't heard anyone claiming that he's not upon the manhaj. He says himself that's he's a sunni. And Allaahu a`lam.

I personally don't think we should go around asking such questions, akhy. That is, unless the 'shaykh' is known for his deviance.
The 'brotherhood' has been lost, in this day and age Muslims are enemies of one another subhaanallah. So we must find ways to stick together and support one another in goodness. The prophet :saw: told us in a saheeh hadeeth وَكُونُوا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ إِخْوَانًا "And be, servants of Allaah, brothers!"

As far as seeking knowledge goes, there are books as well as talks available by scholars who've dedicated their time and effort to teaching the deen, unlike Zakir Nair who's main role is a daa`ee, so maybe look into those first and return back to Zakir Naik and the like for whatever reason.

For Tafseer of the qur'aan, in English, there's a brother by the name of Nu`maan (Nouman) Khan, you'll find him on YouTube, and I seriously recommend him.

May Allaah `azza wa jalla keep us firm upon the deen.

Wa alaykumus salam sister,
Thank you for your kind words. the reason i asked the question is because i have heard alot of his lectures and some of the things he has said are absolutely nonsense.
say for instance Dr. Zaakir says, “There are many conditions
for three Talaaqs. It is impossible for all of
them to be found. There are 300 Fatwas
present from Saudia. Therefore Talaaq is one,
in accordance to modern conditions, it should
be one.” He says this despite all the Sahabah,
Taabi’een, the four Mujtahid Imams, majority
of the Ummah and all the reliable ‘Ulema’ of
Saudia today state that 3 Talaaqs will take
effect when a person issues 3 Talaaqs in one
sitting, not one. There are more incorrect things he has said. But my point is, since i was a child i have been listening to him, not only me but a majority of the ppl where i live listen to his lectures and if hes gonna say incorrect belief like this then whats gonna happen to the umma

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah,

Try to seek knowledge from the Qur'an and Sunnah itself, and from the scholars of the past, and those who are in position to give fatawa (rulings) today.

Whilst we can also appreciate the good work that many speakers such as Zakir Naik, Yusuf Estes etc do, they are not at the same level as scholars such as Ibn Baz, Al-Albani, Ibn Uthaimeen, or the various senior scholars who are very learned and of the capacity to give fatawa today.

We should be careful of labelling and putting people "On" or "Off". At same time do not stick blindly to what a single scholar might say, it has to reflect the Quran and Sunnah and how the early Muslims thought. That is our manhaj.

wasalamu alaykum

Walecum As Salaam,I have seen lot of videos of Dr Zakir Naik,he never claimed to b a Sunni in fact he says there are no sects in Islam, this is right because he quote the following verse-Surah Al Anam ch 6 v 159-Allah is addressing to prophet Muhammad S.A.W(pbuh) that he has nothing to do with those who make sects,Allah will c them on judgement day.Brother don't follow zakir naik, follow Qur'an,but I will say Dr Zakir Naik played an important role in reverting many people to Islam, even if U want to know about divorce,U can read Surah Al Baqarah ch 2 v 224-232,Surah Al Talaq ch 65.Allahfiz

Asalamo`Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuh,

Sister Janaan is spot on Mashaa`Allah!

The example you have quoted is a fiqhi issue where there may be a valid difference of opinion. You are not qualified to discuss this, and neither do you have the right to judge people being "right" or "wrong" because of a certain fiqh opinion they may have. You may get a popular fatwa in KSA, from say 30,000 different scholars and it may have a valid counterpart in fiqh.

Ummah is not going to be affected because we have difference in fiqh, but its going to be really affected badly if layman like yourself spread nonsense without knowledge. It is not a matter or his aqeedah = belief that you are discussing, it's fiqh. And I will repeat, difference of opinion occur in fiqh and they are valid.

Non of us here at TTI, is qualified to discuss this talaaq issue with you, and even if you find those who are qualified, chances are they will tell to not bother.

Asalaamu Alaikum, My advice would be to listen to his lectures regarding topics of comparative religion and if you want to learn of effective methods of giving dawah to non Muslims as he is very good at that and that is also his speciality as he is following the example of the late Ahmed Deedat. But when it comes to his lectures on Qur'an, hadith and fiqh matters then I would say that it is better not to listen to such lectures as he is not an Islamic scholar and therefore does not have the qualifications to give his views and opinions on any matter pertaining to fiqh or any other Islamic matter.

His area of expertise may be comparative religion and he maybe suitable for non-muslims to listen to. Even Ahamed Deedat was considered more a bible scholar than an islamic scholar. Regarding his reliability and authenticity, his knowledge is weak and his views are not 100% on the mark and i believe some scholars have advised against listening to him. Br. Mabsoot is right, we should stick to the true scholars who spent their lives reading Islam and have more in depth understanding of it. If we would seek the out the best doctor for our health we should do the same for our emaan because the stakes are even bigger here.
