TYRE Lebanon
Two bombs targeting a nightclub and a liquor store exploded early Wednesday in the Lebanese city of Tyre, one of the few areas of the conservative south where alcohol is available.

There were no casualties in the 5:00 am (0300 GMT) blasts but they caused severe damage to property, a security official told AFP.

The army cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.

One of the bombs targeted the Elissa Queen Hotel on the seafront of the scenic Mediterranean coastal town. The hotel and nearby buildings were immediately evacuated.

The hotel nightclub is a favorite with U.N. peacekeepers deployed in south Lebanon, an AFP correspondent in the town said.

The second bomb struck a shop selling alcohol in the Christian quarters of Tyre, a multi-confessional city especially popular with tourists during the summer season.

A string of liquor stores in south Lebanon were forced to close this year in the face of a campaign to rid the south of alcohol.

Alcohol is widely available in multi-confessional Lebanon, which is considered the most liberal country in the Arab world.

It is banned, however, in areas under the control of Shiite militant group Hezbollah and radical Sunni movements.

I'm strongly against alcohol and it's wide spreading, specially in Muslim land
and the govt has made it so easy accessible, that it is inflicting our brothers and sisters too.

however, in no way, these attacks are supported, we don't have such teaching.
however, the govt shouldn't be one sided, caring much about the kuffars.

like we can see in the arab lands, eventually these lands are becoming heaven for the kuffar.

and people getting emotional, do such things.

if people are against open alcohol, govt knows that, why then they go against their own people and becoming more loyal to the kuffar, based on such statement like in shari'ah non muslims can have alcohol.

sick

our leaders are just...............

Asalaamu Alaikum,

This is due to the Dhimmi contract, an act of tolerance towards the other faith. With dhimmi's -

1. They can judge by their own laws, they don't have to go to Islamic courts to settle disputes (as long as no Muslim is involved).

2. The rule of the Majority (ie. Shariah) does not apply to them. So if they drink alcohol, commit adultery or whatever, then they can only be punished depending on their own Christian/jewish laws/courts, not Islamic one's.

The only time the Islamic Shariah is forced to intervene is if the Dhimmi publically drank alcohol on the streets (misleading other people) or did another Anti-Shariah act in public, only then would the Islamic court have to be involved.

Funnily enough, these rights above are more then what secular societies give them.

It's just tolerance.
