Assalaamu Alaikum Sister
Alhamdulillaah! May Allaah grant you His protection and guidance.
Hope you are already adapted to the Islaamic envirnment.
Just I can tell as a brother in Islaam,
* not to forget daily prayers ( 5 times a day)
* not to forget to read Qur'an with the meaning at least 10 verses a day
* not to forget to see your mother and father if they are living nearby or at least give them a phone call and ask their needs and try to fulfill if you are able.
* keep in touch with your family members from time to time.
* do not follow your desires.
* seek Allaah's protection always and the prayers should be direct to him.
Allaah states in the Qur'an:
\\ And We have enjoined on man, to be good and dutiful to his parents.\\ Qur'an Ch. 29 verse 8)
Also I would like to add a Hadith - a teaching of the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu alaihi wasallam (Peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).
Narrated Abu Huraira Radhiyallaahu Anhu (Allaah accepted him):
\\ A man came to Allaah's Apostle sallallaahu alaihi wasallam and said, "O! Allaah's Apostle! Who is more entitled to be treated with the best companionship by me?"
The Prophet sallallaahu alaihi wasallam said, "Your mother."
The man said, "Who is next?"
The Prophet said, "Your mother."
The man further said, "Who is next?"
The Prophet said, "Your mother."
The man asked for the fourth time, "Who is next?"
The Prophet said, "Your father."\\
Reported in Saheeh Al-Bukhari.
Wish you, sister in Islam, all the best and I would like to ask to include me too in your Du'a.
Wassalaamu alaikum warahmathullaahi wabarakaathuhu.
