Baby not Standing Yet

Asalam alaikum warahmatullah

I just wanted to know when do babies start standing. This might seem a strange question from someone who has children already but my baby who is 15months old does not stand yet and I wasn't worried but my mum and mum in law think I should be worried and see a doctor about it. Baby crawls around well and her speech is good, her vocabulary at that age is quite good and she even sings along to nursery rhymes.

They say she does not necessarily have to walk but at least stand. When I try to make her stand she cries and she doesnt like it at all.

What should I do?

Salaam,

Each child is diffferent. Some walk as early as 9 months to 15 months. First, this sounds like your first child...so slow down...second...to ease your mind and get the mothers off your back get a check up. I do not need an answer to this one but does she cry because you hold her all the time and she cries when you put her down/not hold her?

i dnt no much about babys as i havent got any inshallah when allah wills but ill do dua for your child and your family allah make it easy for you ameen

I think your mum may have a point here. She should at least be holding onto a coffee table or something to stand up...

How many teeth does she have?
Also, how is her weight? is it normal? [i.e. around 20+ lbs?]

these two reasons can have an impact on baby's walking.
I have two boys who who started walking in different ages.
One started when he was around 11 month and other around 9.
So, if she doesn't have any tooth or just a couple teeth, then it maybe calcium deficiency. If teeth are fine and weight is ok, try getting her a a musical activity walker like this and it should help inshallah.

She has 5 teeth weighs 8kgs about 17.6 pounds according to the conversion chart on google.

to sister mirajmom, no she isn't my first actually 3rd my first one started walking at 10months, the second at 12months and the issue is not about her walking but my mum and in law are saying she should at least stand or hold on to a coffee table and walk around it without her actually walking on her own.

yeah, normally, if the weight is higher then normal, then that can also cause the baby to not stand up untill around 18 to 22 months.

but in your case, I think you should try the walker and inshallah that should encourage her to cling onto it and stand up...once she starts standing up, walking will follow....

ukhti, don't scare yourself but I would ask a doctor to look at it, I have two sons one walked around the room with 9 months without holding anything and the other at 13 months. Don't know the age when they could stand, I don't even look at the age of the youngest one because 9 months is very young, but walking around in 12/13 months is the average so I am told. Be safe and ask a doctor.

Dont worry ukhti..Allah knows best. But if possible consult a child specialist.
According to my mom, I started walking at around 10 months. :)

Salaam,

Sister each child is unique. I am scared of walkers. Please check it out with a pediatrician. Often we want children to rush and they have a mind of their own. Please let us know that the doctor said. ( I can't have any more kids...but I am sure many sisters would learn from you.)

W-Salam Wa warahmatullah Sister,

To have peace of mind, please see a consultant about the matter otherwise it will nag at you and cause stress.

Insha'Allah everything should be well BUT there are differences in growth and development of children.

I promised to update you all so here goes, baby was seen today by both a GP and a health Visitor and they are very 'concerned' and they say it might be a problem with her hips so she has been referred to a paediatrician so inshallah will have an appointment in the post in the next couple of days/weeks

Walaikum salaams sis

Sorry to hear they are concerned about her - insha'allah they are being over-cautious - they do have to be with all people espcially babies. Insha'allah test reveal there is no real problem or if there is one it is easily rectified.

Try not to worry too much though I know it must be hard. I will make du'a for you and your little one insha'allah.

:salam2: First of all, stop worrying. I have experience with my nephews, there are 3 boys and the oldest is almost 4yrs, still he doesn't know how to talk. Kids his age already know how to talk but children are different, Just be patient, i don't think your baby has any problem, she'll walk when she is destined to walk, pray to Allah, if she is crawling....i don't think she got any problem, soon you'll see her walk inshaAllah. :salam2: :) :) :) :)

dear sister my baby is 10 months old subhanAllah

:salam2: dear sister
i couldnt leave computer without replying to your worries. i believe you should see the doctor, my baby is 10 months old and he is little bit over 9 kg. maybe ur daughter doesnt stand because she might be in need of some more extra weight, but dont force her to stand i did the same with mine when i wanted him to crawl so he was screaming. he started crawling in 8,5 months alhamdulillah. now he is standing by himself in his bed or keeping the edge of chair. do you know about mashaya??? this small chair for babies with small wheels, do you have one??? my baby started using it at 5 months or something like this, then he was pushing the floor by his feet and moving in the room.. and from the hall to the kitchen.. everywhere.. but in the same time it gave him a good background, good practice. so thats how he started training his muscles. another reason can be the lack of calcium or vitamin D, 1 month ago doctor told me to give these vitamins to my boy for 3 months because he was with my in laws and dropped from the bed :((he was sleeping and woke up and started crawling from the bed, so on his head from the back he got little hardness :(( so doctor said its lack of calcium in bones, every day twice he is taking 5 ml of calcium and vitamin D, and B12 and C. dear sister dont worry too much abt ur little cutie, but just get appointment wth doctor, think maybe its lack of calcium?? maybe underweight?? for example my little one had his 2 first teeth at 6 months and you will not believe!!!! until now still 2 teeth ...SOS :)) but he is just late, so maybe ur daughter also is a bit late in standing..
Jazak Allah khier
inshallah khier dear sister

Salaam,

Thank you sister for the update. InshaAllah most tests are usually performed to rule out rather than focus in. Put your faith in Allah. I have learned through the years at worst it is a blessing from Allah. Imagine the gifts Allah will give your child.
