Banned from the masjid

Assalaam alaikum,

I just received a certified letter saying that I am banned forever from going to the masjid. I telephoned the local police department and asked how seriously do I take this. They were very sympathetic and stated I will be arrested if I go to prayers. The masjid is private property.

I am shaking at the moment. I take my 82 year old mother. She enjoys our little walk. It is her outing for the day.

I am going to seek legal guidance as I do not have any Muslim organizations who will help me.

I have never read any hadith or recall any ayat from the Quran which states that this is even Islamic.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I am really refraining from contacting Pamela Geller. I am sure she will have a field day with this one. This is what Islam in the US has come to banning women from the masjids.

wow, even the Imam had to get a restraining order against you. Refraining from contacting Pamela Geller? As if its a possible option? What kind of Muslim would want to assist a Kafr whose Blog solicited funds for that film against our prophet??

^Love the warmth and compassion, I really do.

Aapa, what was their reason for banning you? Did you reach out to a lawyer? What has been the legal response?

This is bordering on the unIslamic thus so far.

Assalaam alaikum,

First the correction: the Imam had to get a restraining order FOR you; not from you.

Second,

I do not see how this is humorous.

This is a serious matter. And it will become a court situation. A court situation about Muslim men oppressing the rights of a Muslim woman to worship at a local masjid.
And it was not the imam who did this. The imam is a good man.

What Mosque is this? At least provide for us an address and telephone number so we can call and petition--that is if its not a prank letter dropped in your mailbox by your next door neighbor.

Sister Aapa had a quarrel with the Mu'adhin at her local mosque, because she wanted to sing Whitney Houston with their mic and he wouldn't let her

This too is a serious matter. Who would want to sing in the House of Allah, especially where non-mahrams can hear her. What kind of an example are you setting for the Muslim youth. I understand singing is the norm in the church but this is the masjid, proper etiquette needs to be followed. No offense appa, but I think sometimes you are too westernized and forget Islam is a religion of modesty where certain adaabs and etiquette needs to be followed at certain places.

Assalam alaikum,

Long story short:

I worked as a teacher at the Islamic school. The proprietor removed his wife as the main administrator; brought in his daughter; fired the principal and many of the staff members. Late in August he tried to reprimand me in front of others. He was verbally abusive. I told him to stop. I told him he was not my husband nor was I a dependent of his. I was fired the next day by his daughter and her husband.

I contacted the major Muslim organization. They told me they could not help me but that I should seek a law suit. I spoke an imam at a respected masjid in the area. He was willing to assist me. I reflected and decided I want to forgive others. I did not want to bring any negative light upon Muslims. This was a deeply thought out decision. I am constantly asking Allah subhana wa taala to forgive me. I decided whatever had happened was water under the bridge and I supplicated that Allah subhana wa taala give me better.

I continued to attend the prayers. Each day I walk with my mother for the afternoon prayer. It is good exercise for her. She truly enjoys it. And we attend jumma. We harm no-one. We say salaam and leave.

The masjid is the house of Allah. It is not exclusive. The brother has issues but there is no reason whatsoever that he would take such serious matters into his hands. He can not stop a Believer from praying.

I did not wish to fight this. But, I am not going to allow a man with a little extra-pocket change bully a woman from praying to Allah subhana wa taala. I am not sure what planet he came from but this is the USofA.

The saddest part of this is that my father was his guide to hajj. And he knows my mother can not attend the masjid without me.

I write the truth, as always, for I fear Allah subhana wa taala.

I received a certified letter in the mail stating I will be charged with trespassing if I set foot on the masjid grounds. Let me think it out before I give out information. I am very upset. If I do go to the masjid I will be arrested and fined up to $10,000.00 I spoke to the police department.

I am writing this to help me overcome the emotionality and become calm. Once again, this has nothing to do with the imam.

I know! Sister. do you know who Pam Geller is? A Zionist who curses Islam, and Aapa wants her on her side, apparently

You are like a dog with a bone, you just keep on. You know good and well she didn't sing in the Masjid or ask for that woman to be on her side. You think you are being cute and funny but its not.

What reason was stated as to why this order was given? Take him to court if it is a personal issue by the person who issued this. Sounds like a guy who did not like being told how to act Islamically by a women.

Assalaam alaikum,

I said Pam Gellar would have a field day with this. I do not want her on my side.

Think brother, this is just what I want to avoid. This brother is giving people like Pam Gellar and her group the fuel for the fire they need.
This brother has no right whatsoever to do this. I need help from Muslims in letting him not get away with this. He has done this to other brothers that he did not agree with. I do not know the circumstances. But, I have done nothing but attend prayer in congregation to get blessings. I walk to the masjid because I read each step you walk erases sins. I dhikr when I walk to become stronger. We meet people in the neighborhood who wave and smile. The women dote on my mother on jumma. She is like a little doll, you just want to put her in your pocket.

I wish to thank each one of you. We are to come to each other to seek counsel. In my world we say this is some crazy dodo.

Sister Shak78...I am going to have to as there is no justification for this. Crazy dodo.

I will keep you in my dua Sister, and pray that this so called man learns that the masjid is not a plaything for him to ban people as he wishes. What I wouldn't give for a masjid in my area that is not 3 hours away.

What is wrong with you that you can't tell the difference between joking and seriousness?

A stupid joke was cracked and you take it to be a fact when the affected sister is already deeply disturbed.

To spell it out for you: There was no singing involved and the reason for the banning was something else. No harsh judgmental comments necessary.

Well lets not forget you had us make du'a for you when you went for the interview for the menial factory job. Maybe Allah answered our prayers and made it easier for you to leave your old job so you can start your new job without any stress.

Nonetheless, I think your original post was a bit tainted. You almost convinced us that this a hate crime, when in fact its nothing more than a personal issue between one worker and an employer. There's absolutely no case of oppression.

You just don't stop do you. Take a serious subject and think you can make it all cute and funny. If you don't care or are going to continue to make comments like this, just leave the thread. You are no help at all.

Sister, what are you talking about? Trace back a bit and remember that Sister Aapa went for a job interview and asked us to pray for her. I remember making du'a...

Assalaam alaikum,

Sister,

There is nothing personal going on whatsoever. There was nothing tainted about my post. It was not a personal issue between an employer and a worker. It became a legal issue. He was wrong in a the professional manner. The man is wrong as he has breached my contract and I let it go; he would not stop and he overstepped his authority by walking into an arena that is not his. He can not interfere with my wishing to pray at a masjid.

There is no justification in the trespassing notice. I gave background information as to what may have caused this man to react in this manner. However, in a court of law this does not amount to anything.
He is not an imam. I have not done anything except to pray at a masjid.

Now, the issue becomes one of property rights as this is private property and religious rights. The courts are going to have to decide if the man has the right to decide who can worship at the masjid. The courts are going to have to handle this in a delicate way. He is not a religious figure.

I know I have won the battle. I just did not wish to fight in it. It will go public and it will gain national attention. I know that the county I live in at this moment is well aware of what happened. The police could not believe it and were embarrassed that a man would do this to a woman. You can not bully a woman.
