From his prison cell in Israel, jailed Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti has called for a third intifada of civil resistance against Israel, Haaretz reported on Tuesday.

In a letter that was read out at a gathering in Ramallah, Barghouti called on Palestinians to end negotiations, boycott all Israeli products and buy only Palestinian produced items.

“Stop marketing the illusion that there is a possibility of ending the occupation and achieving a state through negotiations after this vision has failed miserably,” Barghouti stated in a letter issued on the tenth anniversary of his incarceration.

“Opening a wide-scale civil resistance at this stage will serve the cause of our people,” Barghouti wrote. “The Palestinian Authority should end all coordination with Israel, both economic and security, and work instead on Palestinian reconciliation.”

Barghouti also called for renewed efforts in the UN where last year the Palestinians failed to obtain recognition for a Palestinian State from the UN Security Council. Barghouti said that if those efforts produce no results, the Palestinians should instead appeal to the UN general assembly and its associated agencies as well as encouraging a diplomatic boycott by Arab countries.

Barghouti is considered a candidate to take over the reigns from current Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, should Israel release him from prison, where he is serving out five life sentences for terrorist activities.

“It must be understood that there is no partner for peace in Israel when the settlements have doubled,” Barghouti wrote, according to Haaretz. “It is the Palestinian people’s right to oppose the occupation in all means, and the resistance must be focused on the 1967 territories.”

The calls come ahead of a forthcoming Land Day protest on Friday that urges hundreds of thousands of people to march Israel’s borders from surrounding countries.

Barghouti, who was captured in 2002 during Operation Defensive Wall, is serving five life sentences for organizing terror attacks, including suicide bombings. Barghouti, a popular figure among Palestinians, was seen as one of the driving forces behind the second intifada against Israel that was launched in 2000.

What Sunni Arab states are you talking about? The same "Sunni" states who have soldiers in Afghanistan? The same Turkey who have soldiers in Afghanistan? As for Turkey, dont they consider Atatürk to be god?

Forget the Arab states, only few people support them here, we do not want them. They fight against islam, and it doesnt matter if they call themselves 'Muslims' hundred times.

Or the same Turkey who has done much more by political supporting both Palestine and Syria matters than most of Sunni Arabic leaders?

What new Egyptian Sunni leaders have done for exalmple for power crises of Gaza last weeks? They received some millions of dollars for fuel from Gaza government but after that refused to send fuel they had sold.

Thanks. Very supporting act.

Power authority: We transferred $2m to Egypt but no fuel arrived
[ 14/03/2012 - 04:39 PM ]

GAZA, (PIC)-- The power and natural resources authority in Gaza Strip said on Wednesday that it had transferred the sum of two million dollars to Egypt as a payment in advance in return for fuel supplies but nothing arrived in the Strip yet.

It said in a press release that the sole electricity generation station in the Strip was still out of work because of the lack of fuel.

The authority hoped that Egypt would soon start sending fuel supplies and in enough amounts to re-operate the station.

The authority asked the media outlets to be accurate in carrying information and to get it from its original source from the authority and not to publish unauthenticated reports especially about electricity and energy in the Strip.

Askool: Egyptian intelligence blocking fuel supplies to Gaza

[ 18/03/2012 - 10:47 AM ]

GAZA, (PIC)-- The secretary of the Gaza council of ministers, Dr. Mohammed Askool, charged Egyptian intelligence with blocking the entry of fuel shipments to the Gaza Strip.

Askool told Palestine newspaper published on Sunday that the energy and natural resources authority in Gaza had transferred the sum of two million dollars to the Egyptian petroleum company as a payment in advance for the supply of fuel to Gaza power station.

He said that the Egyptian intelligence told the Gaza authority that it should transfer the fuel transportation means to Karm Abu Salem crossing, which is under Israeli control, in order to receive the shipments.

Askool affirmed that the intelligence’s request was absolutely rejected for political, technical, and administrative reasons.

The cabinet secretary said that the agreement between the Gaza authority and the Egyptian company stipulated that the fuel shipments would be supplied via the Rafah border terminal.

He urged the Egyptian government to pressure its intelligence into allowing the fuel supplies through Rafah crossing to re-operate the power station that has been shut down for more than a month and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

Askool hoped that a breakthrough in the power crisis would be imminent, expressing confidence that the Arab people would pressure their governments to end the crisis once and for all.

Power is out 18 hours daily in the Gaza Strip as a result of the fuel shortage.

Yes it is. We should be patient and leave judging who is muslim and who is not to Allah only. He knows the best. Many Turkish brothers and sisters risk they own life for making humanitarian works for Syrians. No need for generalization like this.
